DO NOT STAY HERE! I am extremely upset with my experience with this hotel. I usually trust Best Western to be a quality stay. This is by far the most disgusting hotel rooms I've ever been in. There was hair stuck to the walls of the bathroom, dead bugs and dust and hair all over the floors, mysterious brown smudges on the walls, mouse poop. I've never been in a dirtier room in my life.
Not only that, but I am a person with a disability and when I pulled into the handicap spot there was a piece of wood with screws sticking out of it. There were butts and trash in front of the room.
I wanted a refund for the entire stay, but the hotel manager and staff were very rude and denied all of what I said. They refused to refund me for all 3 nights.

Stopped through on a long day of driving. Stayed 1 night. Exactly what we needed. Front desk was so kind and had great customer service. Even though the first room we were checked into was still being remodeled, front desk got us into another room right away. We could tell the room was newly remodeled and the TV was not hooked up, but other than that. Room was nice and clean. And perfect for what we needed to rest on a long drive.

***EDIT***
The manager will comment about how much they care about your opinion and experience but its important that you DO NOT BELIEVE HIM as he has done nothing to remedy any of the recurring issues and complaints.
I'm so torn here. Only reason this hotel has 2 stars is the poor employee behind the desk was really nice but he's only able to do what management allow. I stay in Monterey often for work and have been staying at a variety of hotels to try and lock in a permanent spot I can build a relationship with to be my go to. Absolutely NOT this one. My first night I was put next to an "employee" who listened to loud music past midnight, despite multiple calls to the front desk. I stopped in the following day to see if the problem could be dealt with so I don't have to lose another night of sleep (mind you I was supposed to be up at 5am and wasn't able to fall asleep until after 1am). When I got back I was told they would not move the offender, but offered to move me instead. So now I have to pick up and relocate all my items if I want to be able to sleep at night (I'm staying a week and do not pack light). On top of all this the bed was not comfortable and there is no overhead lighting so I must try and work with desk lamps. Also, there was an earwig in my bath towels. Absolutely gross. The mini fridge did not work and smelled foul. The hotel next door (owned by the same people) is even worse... so I guess that's cool. The only reason this place gets a 2nd star is the front desk guy tried to make things right. I feel bad for him.
If you are considering this hotel, don't, unless you want to play Russian Roulette with your sleep and the local insect population.
What a disappointment.

The staff was very helpful and attentive to our needs. We checked into a room that had issues and they moved us to a new room right away and check on us later to make sure we were good

This is a total "you get what you pay for" situation. On the one hand, it's sort of walking distance to Marina State Beach (if you're not carrying much). And, it's maybe 20-25% of the cost of a room at the spectacular Sanctuary Resort across the road. The reception staff was nice enough, and got us in a little earlier than the 3PM check-in, which we appreciated. Our room was clean, and the bed is comfortable. However, it's super poorly maintained otherwise. When we arrived, we couldn't use the deadbolt. They sent up a guy to fix it after we called on our cell because the phone in the room didn't work. So, we had to wait 30 minutes or so to be able to lock the door. My brother-in-law booked a second room, and his deadbolt did not work either, but he figured out how to lift the door in the frame to get it to lock. We brought leftover from lunch, but the fridge didn't work. Later, I spilled some water on my pants and wanted to dry them with the hair dryer. Guess what? It didn't work! My partner wanted some snacks from the vending machine, which a) was almost empty and b) you guessed it! Didn't work! So, if you're keeping count, that's: deadbolt, phone, fridge, hair dryer, vending machine. We're only staying one night while we check out the Sanctuary for a family event later in the year, so it's not a big deal. But if you had to stay longer than that, I'd say it's a hard "no." You have to know the average 4 ★ rating is all about the location.
