  Do not, I repeat do not, rent a car from Sixt. If you do rent from them you should spend a lot of time taking pictures of every inch of the car. I took a video and I was not able to be 100% certain that the scratch was there or not - cost me approx €500. The smallest thing will come back as a charge, irrespective of how insignificant it is they will take your deposit. I asked for proof that they would make the repair of the scratch on the wheel rim, but I was told it was not necessary to make any repair and they would wait until later (e.g I assume they hope this wheel rim will pay for itself several times over). There are other options than Sixt -- I for one will not be coming back to them (very short term thinking on their part).

  Extremely disappointing experience. After a long journey, we waited in line at the SIXT counter for more than 30 minutes late at night. Traveling with child, this was already exhausting. I had a confirmed one-week reservation, but when we finally reached the counter, I was told that a passport was required to rent the car. I presented valid EU biometric ID cards together with my driver license. My booking confirmation clearly stated that either an ID card or a passport would be accepted. The employee explained that his manager requires a passport and does not allow rentals using an EU ID card, regardless of what the booking confirmation says. As a result, my reservation was refused, and I was not given the car. Being denied a rental, we were left without transportation and had to make alternative arrangements at the last minute. Fortunately, we went to the Hertz counter, where the staff accepted our valid EU biometric ID card without any issues and rented us a car. If a passport is truly mandatory when renting a car with SIXT, this requirement must be clearly stated before customers make a reservation. Wasting customers time, making them wait in line for over 30 minutes, and then refusing to rent a car because of an undisclosed internal policy is simply unacceptable. I do not recommend SIXT.
