  I would give 0 stars if I could. An incredibly rude and unwelcoming experience on 28/08/2026 by a slim male member of staff. We are visiting Switzerland from the UK and decided to spend the day cycling along Lake Constance/Bodensee. Unfortunately, it was a very rainy day, and after around 20 km of cycling we decided to stop at Restaurant zum Schiff for some food, drinks and a much-needed break. As we are not locals, we were unsure where bicycles were supposed to be parked. We noticed two bicycles already standing in the outdoor garden area under the red umbrellas, so naturally assumed this might be an acceptable place to leave them. The entire outdoor area was completely empty, with no customers, and the tables and chairs were wet from the rain and appeared unused. We pushed our bicycles next to the two bikes already there, intending to immediately ask a member of staff whether it was OK to leave them there before ordering drinks and deciding what to eat. Before we even had the opportunity to properly explain ourselves, a slim male member of staff reacted very angrily, shaking his head and walking away. My partner went inside to speak to him and clarify where we should leave the bikes. Instead of simply explaining the situation or directing us to the correct bicycle parking area, he responded in an extremely rude and hostile manner, telling her that we were not allowed to sit outside and pointing at the tables indoors where only 2 people were eating. At this point my partner felt so unwelcome that she decided we should leave. As we were taking our bicycles away, the same male member of staff waved his hand at us with an angry expression, clearly gesturing for us to get out. I happened to turn around and see this, so I asked him why he was being so rude. His response was to repeatedly point his finger at his temple while saying, essentially, “How can you bring your bike into the restaurant? This is the restaurant,” as though we were stupid for not understanding. I explained that there were already bicycles in exactly that area and that we had simply wanted to ask where we were supposed to park ours. He then told us that the bicycles already there belonged to him and continued angrily waving us away and telling us to leave. This entire situation could have been resolved in seconds with a simple, polite sentence: “Sorry, bicycles cannot be left here, you can park them over there.” We would have happily moved them, thanked him and gone inside to order. Instead, we were met with hostility, dismissive gestures and behaviour that made us feel insulted and extremely unwelcome. We are a well-travelled couple and understand that customs and expectations differ from place to place. That is precisely why we tried to ask. We have genuinely never experienced such an unnecessarily hostile reception when simply trying to stop somewhere for food and drinks. Hospitality is not just about serving food. It is about how you treat people who walk through your door. A little patience and basic kindness towards visitors unfamiliar with the local setup would have completely changed this interaction. Sadly, we left feeling insulted and unsettled rather than welcomed. It was particularly disappointing because this was the last kind of treatment we expected while visiting Switzerland. I would rate this experience 0 stars if that were an option.

  Die Fischknusperli mit Salat waren sehr fein, alles auch optisch schön angerichtet. Zum Abschluss das gute Pfefferminzglace . Alles Bestens gewesen. Wir kommen gerne wieder

  Wollten nur etwas trinken. ( vielleicht essen) jedoch Service und Personal unfreundlich .. mussten wir sagen nein zum Essen !!

  Ho ordinato una pizza prosciutto con extra olive d'asporto. Quasi bruciata con prosciutto di pessima qualità ed ad un prezzo di 22 franchi. (Una pizza al prosciutto costava 19 franchi). Mi dispiace di non aver fatto una foto..... Comunque il gelato è buono e a un giusto prezzo 😉

  Essen nicht gerade herausragend, Service dafür unterirdisch nix los nur 1 weiterer 2er Tisch belegt. Bestellung kam zügig dann durften wir ungestört essen und verweilen. Weder leere Teller abgeräumt noch auf leeres Glas reagiert. Bis wir zahlen wollten war keiner mehr am Tisch, die lounge 5m weiter war den 4 Mitarbeiter*innen offenbar wichtiger bzw. Bequemer. Schade.
