We stayed for 3 nights with our two young kids. The rooms were dated and the bathroom in the room was not the cleanest. We had issues with noise disturbances with a dog barking nonstop in a nearby room (this was of course out of the control of the hotel). However, there were guests partying in the room next to us with blaring music and screaming into the middle of the night. The next night, there were guests outside our room in the parking lot smoking, drinking and being loud until late. With the AC on, the smell of smoke was coming into our room which was not ideal with our young kids staying with us. The front desk was quick to respond and to deal with the issues but because of all this we just did not enjoy our stay.
The one pro was the very friendly staff at breakfast, they truly were the best part of the hotel.
Overall, we would not return to this hotel due to the cleanliness of the rooms and because of the noise disturbances.

I had an incredible stay at the Best Western on Chocolate Lake! The space is inviting and beautifully maintained, with stunning lake views that are absolutely breathtaking. The hotel rooms are spotless, fresh, and offer a comfortable retreat after a day of exploring.
What truly set this experience apart, however, was the exceptional service. Manpreet greeted us with genuine friendliness and enthusiasm during check-in, making the process smooth and welcoming. When Manpreet wasn’t at the front desk, Christian was there, ensuring the same high standard of service continued seamlessly. Their dedication and hospitality truly elevated our stay.
Highly recommend this location for anyone seeking both scenic beauty and outstanding service!

Pros:
- Great restaurant with ample indoor and outdoor seating. The cocktails, beers and food were all delicious! Great service by the waitresses and hostesses there. They rock!!
- Good location. Only about a 15 min drive to the Halifax waterfront.
- Rooms were clean, spacious and well sound-isolated.
- Communication about issues. The pool was under emergency repairs during our visit and we regularly received texts to update us.
- Breakfast was impressive for a hotel. Fresh fruits, muffins, assorted pastries, boiled eggs were a nice touch over the usual scrambed ones. Bacon and the pancake machine were also really nice! The potatoes were also very good and seasoned well !
Cons:
- Housekeeping was inconsistent. One day they left us clean towels in a bag outside our door, other times, they didn't come at all, even when we directly asked the maid for items.
- The lobby can be more inviting at check-in. We drove-in around 2pm and the lobby looked like we were walking into Dracula's castle with no lights open, nobody around and just 1 person at the front desk.
Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and would return if the rates were lower.

Very pleasant staff who are eager to help whether it be calling you a taxi or informing you of places you may want to go.
Rooms are spacious and each has a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The beds have the most incredibly comfortable mattresses that I have slept on. It is very close to downtown Halifax which is amazing for taking in the sights or shopping, yet it is just far enough away from the hustle and bustle to enjoy a quiet stay while you are there. The food at their restaurant was just ok and kind of expensive for what you get.
They offer a complementary breakfast which has a great selection, it was very tasty. They have something there for everyone and you will not walk away hungry. They also change the breakfast daily so you will not be stuck with the same food each morning, one morning for the meat portion they had sausage rounds the next the had ham, not deli slices but real ham sliced into various sizes so you could pick if you wanted thick or thin pieces.
There is an indoor pool with excellent hours of operation and never seemed to be over crowded.
Overall I am impressed with this hotel and really enjoyed my stay. I woud have no hesitation in recommending this hotel at all.

Stayed July 2026. Good location with sufficient parking and convenient to trips to downtown Halifax. There is also a convenience store next door.
We did not get the opportunity to spend much time around the Lake.
Staff, facilities, and services were generally fine, if a little lacking in warmth. There is oddly a lot of cash services in the hotel, including a small Japanese-style arcade with several pinball machines. Front desk staff refused to sell tokens and insisted we had to get Canadian cash from an ATM, which we did not want to do as the service fee from the ATM was excessive just to play a few pinball machines.
Most significant issue, which impacted everything, was the discovery of significant mold growth in the hallway aircon outside our room. I didn't go around the hotel checking all the units but considering how much mold was on the vents, and that this air was going through the hotel our entire stay, I think its a significant potential health hazard.
I raised this with the front desk when we checked out but it does not appear that they bothered following up with us.
