Subpar experience for the price. Booked in the summer during a 25% off promotion for Festival of Lights Package. We paid $550 for 2 nights and its baffling to believe that was the discounted price.
The room was incredibly dated. The carpet looked like it was 100 years old. We were able to hear people inside of their rooms and down the hall the entire stay. It was SO noisy for my 1 year old to sleep. From 8-11pm all we heard was yelling and doors slamming.
The breakfast buffet that was "included" in the package was not very good. My child eats anything and he even spit out the eggs because they were so gross.
The playground is exceptionally dated. It still has metal slides. I came to Oglebay as a kid 30 years ago and its probably the same playground.
They really hyped up the Christmas activities but they all sucked. Santa's village was just a tent with santa and cheap ornaments. The ice skating rink is made of teflon. There is NO ice. The build your own smores kits that were advertised all weekend were not included. It was $4 and they gave you one marshmallow, one graham cracker, and 3 pieces from a hershey chocolate bar that they broke off themselves. Those materials cost about 30 cents. There should at least be enough to make 2 smores for $4!
We didnt know for dinner you needed reservations so we had lengthy waits. Once we got to eat, it took over 30 minutes for them to make 2 sandwiches and they got the order wrong so my 1 year old had a meltdown for french fries when I never ordered them; I ordered the fruit cup. And the price of the food was expensive as well. $18 for a cheeseburger with only chips as the side.
Would not recommend unless you enjoy loud, dated, moneypits.

I have been there many times. The last time was shortly after COVID. Was not a great experience then a lot of issues. I wanted to wait a few years just got back. I will NEVER GO BACK!!! We were there a little before check in room was not ready till after 30 minute's after. Was not a big deal was told like years ago we are short staffed. Our room smelled like POT. Went down to front desk was told booked up and will look into it. Nothing happened the entire time was smelling like POT. Room is limited on outlet. The breakfast first day was horrible again told was short staffed didn't even have food out. There is no sanitation for cross contamination, with mushrooms and for vegetarians, and religious beliefs. House keeper didn't empty trash also cross contamination reusing an ice bag with dirty gloves not only that but left dirty glasses. Alot of complaints from staff saying short staffed but then standing around and complaining. The lights during the week weren't all on till Thursday. And they of course were out there before the weekend to make sure they are working. They are building a lion experience how about paying staff and making sure you have staff. I will never go back.

You arrive at this beautiful resort by driving through 3 plus miles of twisted winding road. It was a heavenly beautiful place to relax and unwind. Definitely feels like spending a relaxing time at the countryside.

Came here for conference, Room was horrible.
Room had a Murphy bed which was not what was advertised.
Room Smelled like a bonfire.
Carpet was filthy.
No fan or anything to circulate air in room so I could hardly sleep and breathe.
Multiple spiders in room.
They overbooked the hotel so unable to upgrade or change room.
Do Not Recommend. Go to the Hampton down the road.

Hadn’t stayed at the resort in 20 years. Thought I’d book a night for us to enjoy along with the Festival of Lights. The Festival of Lights was great. The carriage house shop was great with amazing staff. The check in experience and room was disappointing. We were coldly greeted and given a handicap room next to the maid closet. I didn’t book a handicap room so that was odd. The views are well disappointing looking at the hotel wing across the way. There were only three pillows on the bed for two people. The tv remote was taped together. The heater/ac unit was noisy. There was no bedside clock. The curtain header was falling down. The room in general looked dated and in need of a redo. Definitely not luxury resort. I really was hoping for a nice stay and unfortunately was disappointed.
