⭐️⭐️—Holiday Inn Express & Suites Virginia Beach
My wife and I were traveling through the area and decided to stop at this Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Virginia Beach. I’ve been a frequent customer of the Holiday Inn brand all over the United States, and for the most part my experiences have been phenomenal, with only a few minor details at some locations that could use improvement.
Booking the room online was quick and easy, with no issues at all. Upon arrival, we immediately noticed that the parking lot is fairly small and fills up quickly. I do have a handicap license plate, so accessible parking was available for me, but for anyone else staying here, just be aware that parking can be limited during busier times.
When we entered the hotel, the front desk staff was friendly, professional, and welcoming. She explained the breakfast times and location and also prepared a parking placard for my truck so it wouldn’t be towed, which I appreciated. Beyond that, there wasn’t much that went above and beyond, but she was very polite, professional, and efficient.
The room itself was very good when we walked in. It was clean, smelled fresh, and there were no visible signs of dirt. The bed was neatly made, trash cans were empty, and everything felt properly taken care of. The mini fridge was clean and empty, the microwave was clean, and the coffee pot was also clean. My wife even ran water through the coffee maker the next morning, and it came out clear, which says a lot.
The only issue in the room was that the bathroom doorknob on the inside was a bit loose. Other than that, the balcony had a great view of the ocean, and with the Christmas lights below, it gave everything a very festive feel. Noise was not an issue at all—no loud guests or disturbances—making for a quiet, comfortable night’s sleep.
One thing worth noting is that only one elevator was operational during our stay, as the other was out of service. I’m not sure how long it has been down, but with just one elevator running, I could see delays becoming an issue during busier times. Hopefully that gets resolved soon.
Another concern was on the sixth floor, where in the hallway next to the ice machine there was a stack of what appeared to be HVAC units sitting on a cart. It looked like maintenance may have removed them from rooms, but it was left out in the open hallway. I found this concerning, especially from a safety standpoint—children tend to touch and grab things, and this doesn’t seem like an appropriate place to store equipment. I’m sure there’s a better and safer location for that.
The next morning, my wife and I went down for breakfast, and unfortunately this was the most disappointing part of our stay. This is where the ⭐️⭐️ come to play. The sausage patties were sitting in a pool of grease and looked dried out and very unappealing. The corned beef hash mixture didn’t look good at all, and the sausage gravy had a thick skin formed on top, clearly having sat out for quite some time. All of it completely shut down our appetite.
While the breakfast is complimentary and I certainly wasn’t expecting five-star dining, the presentation and condition of the food was honestly pretty repulsive. We ended up just having coffee, as the coffee station was clean and presentable, and then went elsewhere for breakfast.
Other than the breakfast experience, the rest of the hotel stay was good. I would stay here again for a clean room, a comfortable bed, and a quiet night’s sleep. I’d just know ahead of time to skip the breakfast and find better options outside the hotel. If you’re in a hurry, there was fruit available, which might work for some. Overall, a decent stay—just manage expectations when it comes to breakfast.
