Frequent visitor, local Blue Ridge beauty, and Realtor here asking for hot chocolate during peak holiday season to be added to the menu. I have experienced the rooms, The Pine, The Regency, the bar, and the breakfast buffet, and I’m looking forward to upcoming events, supporting local artists and still recommend this location as top tier downtown Roanoke experience - especially during Christmas season! My friends have worked there and rave about the positive working environment. My request is simple - Nesquick or Swiss Miss will do. There is no need to overprice it— just consider it as a fair trade for the hard black-eyed peas and the lack of asparagus I ordered but never got. In the mean time - see you soon & stay great.
This iconic Hotel was great to have a stay for a couple days during the Christmas holiday
The only negative comment I would have is that the room service food was terrible
It may have been that it was a busy weekend but I would recommend everything about this place, the bar, the the restaurants, and even the Starbucks coffee
Hotel Roanoke is super nice aesthetically, pretty on the outside and inside, with clean well decorated rooms, however at the end of the day the experience is the same as any other nicer rated Hilton. Wasn’t particularly wowed by the service, as information given by the staff would be inconsistent when we inquired about parking, dining.
We told them no need for the cleaners to come the first day, which they did anyway I wouldn’t mind this but they didn’t replace any of towels, just took anything hanging up including the robes, and made the bed, left the trash, which was a little unusual but not a huge deal as we only stayed 3 nights. Honestly the poor quality of the beds and pillows was the most disappointing part for the rate of the room. Also extremely thin walls, probably much worse as we were there right after Christmas during a busy season but be ready to hear walking above you and your neighbors snoozing their phone alarm.
I have stayed at Hotel Roanoke multiple times for work, and my wife—who had never been—has always wanted to visit. We booked a room for this past Saturday night specifically to enjoy the Christmas décor. As usual, we chose to self-park, and everything was fine until we returned from dinner around 6:30 p.m.
When we pulled into the parking lot, the first attendant asked whether we were attending an event or staying overnight. We explained that we were hotel guests, and he directed us to pull up to the next employee. She asked the same question, then instructed us to drive to the front of the hotel. Once there, we were asked if we needed valet or assistance with our luggage. We told him we were already checked in and were self-parking. He said he wasn’t sure why we had been sent there and explained that the self-parking lot was likely full, suggesting we look for free street parking.
After circling the block and finding no available street parking, we re-entered the lot. We informed a different attendant that we were hotel guests self-parking, but he abruptly cut us off and told us to pull up to the next employee. I could clearly see two open spaces, and when I mentioned them, he insisted the lot was closed. The next employee then directed us to the overflow parking deck. We ended up parking there and walking back to the hotel in the cold.
While I understand the hotel was busy with holiday visitors and events, it is completely unacceptable that paying overnight guests were forced to park offsite—and pay to do so—while event attendees and visitors viewing the Christmas trees occupied the main parking lot. It was equally disappointing to have to walk such a long distance in the cold after paying for a room.
When the front desk messaged us asking how our stay was going, I replied that parking had been a nightmare. The agent said she would pass the information along to the parking director and have him call me, but I never received any follow-up.

This is a stunning, huge Victorian hotel with beautiful, clean, spacious, tastefully decorated rooms! I would have given this place 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that the staff seemed so confused. We didn’t want to leave the hotel for food after a long day’s drive, so we thought surely one of the three in-house eating establishments would be able to accommodate us. There was a group of tree service employees there which the hotel management gave priority to. We were told by the front desk that although the informal dining room was occupied by the tree service guys, we would be able to order anything on their menu through the bar. Bar staff gave us another story—we could only order fried cauliflower or two other weird foods. So we thought we’d try the formal dining room despite the fact that the menu was limited to dishes my flannel shirted carnivore of a hubby was not much interested in. The kind maitre’d said, “I’m sorry, we’re not open for dinner yet. Come back in 7 minutes”. When she came to get us at precisely 5:00, she handed the busboy our menus, telling him to seat us at table 19, located behind a huge pole. I asked if we could be seated at another table, so he went back to seek permission to move us. Now, please understand there were no other people in this huge dining room with over two dozen tables except one other couple and no one waiting to be seated. The maitre’d came right over to assist. “Can I help you?” I asked about another two top in the middle of the room, but she stated, “Oh no, that one is reserved.” Looking at all the gorgeous empty tables by the windows and wondering why anyone would reserve a non-descript 2-top in the middle of this huge dining room! I said, “We only want dessert. Really, we won’t be here long.” She suggested a nearby 4-top from which the staff needed to take several trips to and fro to remove the excess formal place settings that might catch our spittle. We felt like we were in a Seinfeld episode! “No food for you! There’s no room at the inn”. LoL. After we were finally given permission to take a seat (and the lady, I.e. me, had to seat herself), we ended up ordering Bananas Foster for two, the least foofoo thing on the menu. And Tara, our server, put on quite an enjoyable show with a gorgeous flame when she added the rum, sparks flying from sprinkled cinnamon! It was like the Wizard of Oz😉. Oh, and we were wowed when our busboy poured the water in our glasses, arm extended straight up in the sky, the ensuing waterfall only splashing us a little!
We left with bellies full of melted butter, brown sugar, rum, and a generous amount of ice cream…The only other problem we had with our stay was the difficulty falling asleep on a sugar high despite the comfy accommodations! 😳LoL
Also, take note, you will pay to park in the hotel’s parking lot. Good luck figuring out how to pay! You will need your key which you turned in at check-out! You might want to try to pay with the front desk staff instead!
Would we stay here again? Most likely, yes. But with lowered expectations about finding food. We would have been better off bringing our own bagged lunches from Buc-ee’s! ;)
