Review of Best Western Hampton Coliseum Inn
First of all, I got a very decent price for our stay, which was a great start. We traveled for my son’s basketball tournament, and his first game was at 10 a.m., so we arrived in town early. Since I had my two younger kids with me, I called ahead to request an early check-in.
When I arrived at the hotel a few minutes past 10 a.m., Kevin (manager ) the staff member I had spoken to earlier was incredibly kind, warm, and professional. We paid an extra $25 for early check-in, and honestly, it was the best decision I made that day.
Although breakfast officially runs from 7–10 a.m. and had already ended, I simply asked if we could grab something small, like a cupcake. Kevin went above and beyond—he asked the staff (who were already clearing up) to allow us time to eat. Even though we weren’t entitled to breakfast until the next morning, we were welcomed and able to eat comfortably. I even saved some food for my son.
After his first game, I picked him up, brought him back to the hotel, and he was able to eat, rest, and recharge before his 2 p.m. game. Not only did his team win, but my son played exceptionally well, the leading score was over 30 points! That rest made a real difference.
Now, while the hotel itself isn’t the newest model, the cleanliness truly stood out. From the moment you walk in, the hotel smells fresh, and the hallways were odor-free. The rooms were very clean, and the bathrooms were well maintained. Breakfast also had a good variety.
The location is another major plus, less than 10 minutes from Boo Williams Sportsplex and close to restaurants, eateries, and stores. There’s also ample parking, and the hotel was quite lively with guests coming and going.
The only downside I experienced was with a couple of staff members. One staff member seemed visibly unhappy while we were finishing breakfast and wasn’t very accommodating when I asked where to return a luggage trolley. Instead of assisting, she pointed me in the direction, despite seeing that I was carrying multiple items with my children. The lack of warmth was noticeable.
Additionally, when my 6-year-old accidentally spilled a drink in the room, I politely asked a staff member who was cleaning nearby if I could get help or a mop. He handed me cleaning supplies without any assistance or friendliness. While I had no issue cleaning it up (and my older son even helped), a little willingness to assist would have made a difference. That said, I chose not to dwell on those moments because the overall experience was positive. I would absolutely recommend this hotel especially for families traveling for sports events. And a special thank you to Kevin for being such a wonderful ambassador of the hotel. His kindness, professionalism, and engaging attitude truly made our stay memorable.
I would say that my experience here was very disappointing. When we arrived at our room on the 5th floor, the air conditioning was broken and the phone in the room was also not working. I will say that the front desk clerk was very helpful and pleasant in addressing the concern, and she quickly moved us to another room. Unfortunately, the phone in that room was also broken. We were then moved to the 4th floor, and as soon as we reached the floor, the smell from the trash in the hallway was overwhelming and filled the entire corridor. I understand that we checked in early, and I did notice a staff member cleaning the hallways, most likely from the night before. However, I would advise that trash be removed first thing before cleaning duties are started , so that it is not sitting for long periods of time and creating an unpleasant environment for guests. My main issue with the room was the cleanliness. It was not cleaned thoroughly, and this needs to be addressed quickly because guests deserve to have a clean and sanitary space. You could clearly tell that the floors were not cleaned properly. There were stains underneath the nightstands, which suggests that the housekeeping staff may not be paying close attention to detail. There was a hole in the wall which was stuff with paper.Additionally, toilet paper from the previous guest remained on the spindle, which is a significant sanitary concern. As we all know what occurs in bathrooms, guests should not have to use items left behind by previous occupants. This creates an unnecessary risk for the spread of germs. There were also stains on the furniture that appeared to be blood, which is extremely concerning and unacceptable in any guest room. Overall, the cleanliness and maintenance issues significantly impacted our stay and should be addressed immediately. If I had to come back to Hampton I most likely wouldn’t stay at this location again.
