Very nice hotel. Breakfast options were good, the pool area looked nice. Plenty of parking and there's an automatic door on the side leading to the rooms that makes it a lot more convenient to get to your room/car. When we pulled up it looked like the lobby and pool area were separate from the rooms and basically it is, there's a hallway that leads from the front desk past the pool to the rooms and elevator to get to higher floors. The building where the rooms are they have an automatic door you just scan your card and it opens from the outside and on the inside you just walk up to it and it opens so it makes it more convenient to get to your vehicle from your room so you don't have to walk all the way down to the lobby and then all the way down the parking lot. I'm adding a photo to better explain what I'm talking about. I just thought that the way this hotel is set up is really convenient because you don't have to go to the lobby or out the side of the hotel and walk around you can actually go from the elevator to the sliding door straight to the parking lot from the rooms. I've never seen that before and I thought it was a great setup. Our room was clean, towels were folded very nice, beds were soft. I went to Kroger about 10 minutes away and the area is nice. A nice little town that seems quaint and friendly. There doesn't seem to be a lot of food options close to the hotel but downtown, I guess you could call it, is very nice and full of different options close by. The hotel is very close to interstate 81, across from a nice church. Even though we only stayed one night it seems to be a very nice area.

1-Star Review: Shockingly Shady Experience With Holiday Inn Express & Suites Christiansburg (IHG) I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels over the years, but I’ve never experienced anything as bizarre, misleading, or downright creepy as what happened when I tried to book a room at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Christiansburg by IHG. We were driving from FL to PA and needed a last-minute hotel for the night. Nothing complicated — just a simple call to the local hotel to check availability and rates. I intentionally avoided central booking lines because I prefer dealing with an actual person at the property. What I thought was a local number connected me to someone named “Joline.” She answered with exaggerated southern charm — think the lady from the syrup bottle they canceled — overly jovial, syrup-sweet, cracking jokes about “bein’ hungry and wantin’ some dem southern fried pork chops.” At first it was odd… then it got concerning. Turns out “Joline” wasn’t a real human at all — she was AI. And not even good AI. She constantly interrupted me, laughed at her own lines, and couldn’t contain her enthusiasm about us “bein’ her guests tonight!” even when I specifically told her that I did NOT want to book yet and was only checking pricing and availability. The call ended, and seconds later — surprise — I was charged for a room I explicitly said I did not want to book. When I called back, the hotel told me they had no record of the reservation because I had actually been routed to a third-party booking company. So I had to call them — where I reached someone who could barely communicate the policy, only to be told I needed to file a dispute, get a case number, and wait 2–10 business days to find out whether I’d get my money back. Incredible. I’ve already filed a charge alert with my credit card company, because frankly, the whole thing feels shady from start to finish. What makes this even more unsettling is the thought that this AI persona is deliberately designed to mimic a stereotypical “southern Virginian” — which raises all kinds of questions about how many other regions they spoof. Do callers in California get “Surf’s-Up Steve”? Do people in Boston get “Dunkin’ Donna”? It’s insulting, patronizing, and wildly unprofessional for a major hospitality brand. Why can’t companies just be transparent, human, and honest with their customers? Why the smoke-and-mirrors AI characters and secret third-party charges? Bottom line: I will never call or book with this property again. IHG needs to rethink its outsourcing and AI tactics — fast. If you value clarity, honesty, and basic respect as a traveler, I’d look elsewhere.
