So IHG is my preferred hotel chain of choice. However, I experienced a few things during my seven day. Stay that I think travelers need to be aware of. First off this hotel is in the direct path of DCA air traffic flying over it so at all hours of the day and night the sound of the jets resonates throughout the hotel. I found that this made it very difficult to get a good nights sleep and often woke you up abruptly early in the morning with the sound of a jet nearly flying through the building. Additionally, the room had odd noises from clicking to beeping from both the HVAC system and the in room refrigerator. The in room coffee machine reeked of a mildew smell and I was hesitant to use it. The first night as I was checking in, someone had left food outside of their door, and I noticed some black bugs around the food in the hallway and so I alerted the front desk that immediately removed it. However, the next morning, I found the same black bugs in the first room I was checked into and asked to be moved rooms, which the hotel did accommodate. Following along with some other comments made, the in room coffee service is very weak and they don’t have on-site 24 hour coffee as other IHG hotels do. The location in old town is exceptional and it makes it very easy to walk to numerous shops and restaurants. I also second the comments about hidden fees and it is unclear exactly what these additional fees actually supported. That was never directly explained, and when I asked, multiple staff members gave conflicting answers. With all the variety and options available for hotels in and around the DC Metro area, I won’t be returning to this one largely because of the jet noise and the additional fees that were again, not fully explained, and clearly staff is not educated on it either.

I wish we had read the reviews before booking here. The location is great, but everything else was very disappointing. Between the $45 parking fee, when you can find parking nearby for less than half that price, the terrible restaurant service, and the absurd $25 amenities fee, this place feels like a scam. The amenities fee makes no sense at all, and they try to present it as a great deal by offering things like discounts for Capital Bikeshare, which did not even exist, and a $15 restaurant discount at the restaurant. Honestly, that restaurant discount feels more like a trick to get people to eat there, because the food is terrible and way too expensive for the quality and portion size. The most unacceptable part was how sneaky they were about the restaurant discount. When you ask the front desk how to use it, they tell you to go to the restaurant, give the card to the waiter, and the discount will be applied to the bill. Then, at the restaurant, the waiter acts like that is exactly what will happen. But when the bill comes, they suddenly say it will be deducted from your hotel bill at checkout. In my case, they did not even ask for my room number. When I pointed that out, the manager got upset, went back, reprinted the check, and charged the meal to the room so the discount could supposedly be applied later. Then at checkout, absolutely no discount was applied. My partner had to go back to the front desk and ask why it was missing, and the front desk clerk said, “Oh, I’m sorry, we forgot. We are going to help you now.” Well, 24 hours later, the discount still had not been applied. Totally disappointing and a complete scam. I do not mind paying for good service, but this was just a dishonest way to take money out of guests’ pockets with a useless amenities fee.

This was our 2nd stay at this property this year, and we will return again! It is an extremely well kept property in a safe, fantastic location with beautiful views of the Potomac! They have the absolute best beds and pillows ever! The staff is very friendly and the breakfast in the Hummingbird restaurant on site is delicious! We very highly recommend this property!

Great hotel nestled in Old Town Alexandria. Hotel rates were moderate and the property is gorgeous. Has a restaurant on premises and a few bars in the area. Staff is really nice and rooms are clean. Definitely a great place to stay.
