While we were in SLC we wanted to stop in and see what this is all about. There is massive construction going on so there were areas that were closed off. We were able to go into the area where the Mormon tabernacle choir performs. The buildings were beautiful and yes the missionaries are very friendly and chatty. I wasn't there to join their religion (I'm a proud Roman Catholic) but I was there to see the buildings and learn more about their beliefs etc. They are very willing to share their beliefs and they are very well versed onhiw their religion differs from others.

They weren't very many people because it was under construction the temple was covered in scaffolding so they didn't put out as many lights. I was surprised there was hardly any lights. We were there Christmas Day 2025. Typically there are a lot more lights and nativities so we are excited to see what next year will bring.

What a beautiful place! There is still a lot of construction going on the temple in Dec. 2025. The grounds however are done and you can visit and walk around. The Joseph Smith Memorial building is finally open again and is as beautiful as ever. A must visit if in Salt Lake City. Even if you only have an hour.

Good area to explore right downtown - although part of the grounds including the main temple itself were closed for construction when I went, but still made for an interesting stop with some unique architecture.

Temple Square is one of Salt Lake City’s most iconic attractions, and on balance it deserves a strong rating based on visitor sentiment and experience. The gardens and landscaping are genuinely beautiful, with thoughtfully maintained flower beds and walking paths right in the heart of downtown. The historic buildings around the square including the Tabernacle and Assembly Hall offer impressive architecture and a sense of the city’s pioneer history. Guides and volunteers are consistently noted as friendly and informative, making it easy to engage with the site even if you’re not familiar with its religious significance. Admission and most tours are free, which adds excellent value for visitors. One notable downside right now is the ongoing renovation of the Salt Lake Temple, which is a major draw for many visitors; seeing it behind scaffolding can be anticlimactic if you were expecting to tour the interior. Some visitors also find the religious presence to be more pronounced than other historical sites, which may not suit everyone’s travel goals. Overall, Temple Square offers a rich, peaceful, and culturally significant experience that’s well worth a visit — just go in with the right expectations about what’s open and what you hope to see.
