Why is there a half naked statue on campus? Apparently, a mold of Chief Massasoit the Indian was found on BYU campus several years ago and they decided to create a replica to put on BYU grounds. Chief Massasoit was known for being friendly to westward-bound pilgrims. It's not clear why we have a statue of him over any other native american chief.
