  The customer service and kindness received from staff and housekeeping is exceptional. The hotel and rooms are kept clean and staff go out of their way to assist. Cute fancy shampoo bottles that you never get at hotels anymore! Great location for visiting Southern WV College. Great Value.

  There are limited options in the area so we stay here every year for a family reunion. The rooms are clean and staff are friendly. The breakfast is pretty good and the kids love swimming in the pool. If we've ever had an issue, the manager has been more than accommodating and willing to help resolve the situation (not that we had anything serious take place).

  They gave away our dog-friendly room because we booked online and were told that their system “doesn’t work well with Expedia or Booking.com”. The young man behind the counter had to call his manager to override the system to put us in a different room. She changed us to a handicapped room on the 2nd floor instead of our 1st floor room. They charged us nightly for our service dog and the young man behind the counter said we could bring the dog only if we paid. I asked when the manager would be available and he said she would be in in the morning (instead of calling her again for our convenience). Because this was close to midnight we were extremely tired and too the room. The room smelled VERY musty and the AC did not properly work, so we had to put in another complaint. I would avoid this hotel if traveling. They do have a little bit of Hatfield & McCoy trail merchandise so if you’re not too picky and just want an (overpriced) place to lay your head, this may be ok.

  Booked this hotel for my daughter’s birthday with the plan of celebrating for the weekend with the pool and room. Checked in and was not informed the pool was down until after my kids got ready and went to enter the pool room to see a note that it was closed. Asked front desk when it would be open and they said later in the evening so we went to dinner. Came back to find out it cannot be fixed. I know unknown issues occur and it can’t be helped but was told by manager the next morning we would receive partial refund since the amenity we booked their hotel for could not be afford. Came back to hotel this evening expecting that refund but she had “just left” and I we were instructed to call Monday knowing we are leaving Saturday and live out of town. Will not be back. They were nice but did not follow through with their promise to refund and left their job unfinished and customer not happy.

  We stayed here because everything else in the area was booked and we wanted a place close to the trails for riding our side-by-side. The first night was fine overall. Check-in felt a bit strange because nobody really explained anything to us, and we had to ask a lot of questions ourselves. Luckily, there were signs around the property that helped. The room itself was clean, smelled fresh, and was spacious enough with everything we needed. The second day we spent all day riding trails. When we came back to the hotel, we noticed our towels had not been replaced, so we went to the front desk to ask for fresh towels. The employee gave us towels, but forgot to mention that the hotel had no running water due to a town water issue. There were no signs, notices, or communication about it anywhere. I went to take a shower and discovered there was no water at all. We went back to the front desk, and we were told the water should return in about an hour. After more than 3 hours, there was still no water. We returned to the front desk and politely asked if they could refund only our last night so we could leave and find another hotel where we could shower. We were not asking for a full refund. The employee initially said no because “it was not the hotel’s fault” and the manager refused the refund. After several hours of back and forth and very unhelpful responses from management, the front desk employee finally understood what we were requesting and agreed to refund the last night so we could leave. I understand the situation itself was not entirely their fault, but the way it was handled was very poor and unprofessional. The next day I noticed they still charged my card for the full amount plus the $100 deposit. I emailed the property and received no response, so I had to contact my bank and will also be filing a complaint with Best Western. The pictures online make the property look much nicer than it actually is in person. It carries the Best Western name, but honestly it does not feel like a true Best Western experience. Many guests were complaining that night about the lack of water, and management did not seem prepared or interested in handling the situation properly. The manager seemed completely disconnected from what was happening.
