My teenage son and I stayed at this hotel while in Spokane for a basketball tournament for 4 nights. The double queen bed rooms were sold out, so I booked a king with a pull-out couch. During check-in (around 10:30pm), Charlye was extremely friendly & helpful. All of our interactions with Charlye were positive. Allison, who manages the breakfast area, was wonderful to deal with. We have some food restrictions and she was very helpful checking the labels on foods and offering alternatives.
One evening, I was walking to a nearby restaurant and I stopped at the front desk to ask if there were stairs at the east end of the building (there’s not). When I went to walk out, it had started raining pretty hard. I exclaimed “it’s raining again!” The front desk attendant (I didn’t get her name) immediately offered me an umbrella.
Hotel was clean. The breakfast was great, with many options (cereal, oatmeal, pancakes, yogurt, eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, pastries, toast, bagels, English muffins!). Room was comfortable. Bathroom was large with a huge counter. Location was very central.
The lobby is quite large with couches & chairs on one side and the “restaurant seating” on the other (this is used for the breakfast, but is available anytime to sit at.
We had very noisy neighbours one evening & the staff jumped on it right away to ensure all guests had a good stay.

Very nice Hotel. Traveled with a small pet and they were most accommodating. Stayed on 1st floor with direct access (from room) to assigned parking. Staff was was super friendly and the location is overlooking the downtown and close to the the riverfront parks.

I love the hotel and stayed here multiple times. Unfortunately, they now started adding hidden/unexpected fees to the bill, called Hotel Service Fee. It is $10 per day. Not a lot of money it seems but it is dishonest and such practice should not be tolerated. Hidden fees must go. Increase your daily rate for transparency.
Giving 3/5 for rooms as the AC is very loud. However, windows can be opened at night and this helps.

There aren't too many hotels in Spokane that allow a 94lb golden doodle as a guest, but Holiday Inn Express Spokane-Downtown certainly did! I was warmly greeted at the front desk, and was given a very comfortable double-queen room on the first floor with sliding door access to a grassy area for my buddy Dug to have a snifari and leave some peemail for his dog friends.
The room was very clean, the breakfast was warm and filling, too. Selections changed daily, and there was always eggs, protein (bacon, sausage, and hard-boiled eggs. Yogurt, pastries, hot oatmeal, and even a conveyor belt making fresh pancakes. The biscuits and gravy were very good.
I heard there is a manager's reception with wine and finger foods Monday-Wednesday evenings, but I was never around for those. And they also offered nightly cookies and milk. I wasn't ever back at the hotel for that either.
The first two nights were very quiet, but on my last night there, 2 high school busses had arrived for the state STEM competition. The kids were excited and noisy, but by about 11pm or so, they were all quarantined 😁😂 and everything was quiet.
I was in town to spend some time with family, and this hotel was the perfect stay for me and my best friend Dug. I'll DEFINITELY be back.
Oh, and the towel bunny on the bed was a fun surprise!

I had an incredible experience at Holiday Inn Spokane and that’s saying a lot considering my trip started off very chaotic.
I accidentally booked my stay for the wrong date (and not just a day off…literally two weeks off) through Expedia. When I showed up to check in, I was stressed and fully expecting a headache. Instead, I was met by Charlie at the front desk, who was nothing short of amazing. She was patient, kind, and incredibly reassuring. She honestly made me feel like everything was going to be okay, even though this mix-up was completely my fault😭but we live and we learn am I right?
She stayed with me through the whole process while I dealt with Expedia (which took forever), and when it looked like I might not even get a refund, I just canceled and rebooked directly through the hotel. Charlie went above and beyond. She even applied a discount for guests visiting the animal eye clinic after I mentioned I was in town for my cat’s appointment. I truly wasn’t expecting to pay anything that day, and her help made a stressful situation so much easier.
Speaking of my cat (Whitney) has separation anxiety, so I was nervous about leaving her alone and possibly getting noise complaints. Charlie reassured me that the staff would simply call me if there were any issues and that they completely understood. That level of compassion meant a lot.
The hospitality didn’t stop there. That evening, they offered complimentary cookies and milk, and I swear it was exactly what I needed after a long day of driving. It made me feel so welcomed.
The next morning, another staff member (I wish I caught his name🤦🏽♀️) was just as kind. I mentioned how much I loved the Dove body wash they had, and he gave me one to take home for free. Completely unexpected and so appreciated.
The hotel itself was great too; clean, welcoming, and the on-site gym was a nice bonus. Plus, complimentary breakfast? Always a win.
I do want to name one uncomfortable experience during breakfast—not with staff, but with another guest. While I was simply trying to eat a banana before getting back on the road, I had trouble opening it from the stem and flipped it to peel from the bottom. A guest nearby commented that the way I was eating it “reminded her of a monkey.” As a Black woman, that comment carries a long and painful history, and it was upsetting to hear—especially in a moment where I was just minding my business and trying to get through what was already a stressful day.
I don’t believe there was malicious intent, but that’s also part of the issue—there was no pause to consider how a comment like that might land or what it implies. Some things don’t need to be said out loud, especially when they echo harmful stereotypes. But I want to be very clear, that interaction had nothing to do with the hotel or its staff. If anything, the warmth and professionalism of the team made it clear that kind of behavior is not reflective of this space.
Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel enough. The staff went above and beyond in every way, and Charlie especially deserves recognition…seriously, give her a raise.
10/10 stay. If you’re in Spokane, especially for the animal eye clinic, this is the place to be. You will feel welcomed, supported, and taken care of.
