I booked my room through Expedia and specifically selected the "pay at check-in" option because I wanted to pay when I arrived—not before. Despite that, Holiday Inn attempted to charge my card two days before check-in, and then again the morning of my arrival.
When I checked in, I paid for my room ($261) with one card and the $100 incidental deposit with a different card. Both transactions were approved.
The next morning, I received a notification that the hotel had attempted to charge an additional $161 to the card I had used for the deposit. When I went to check out, I was told I still owed $161.
The explanation I was given made no sense. I was told that the $261 I paid at check-in was "only a hold" and that the hotel had never actually collected the payment—even though my bank clearly showed the charge as pending. In other words, I was expected to have the original $261 tied up on my account while paying another $261 for the same room. I've stayed at dozens of hotels and have never encountered this kind of billing process.
What made the experience even worse was the lack of customer service. The manager on duty was dismissive, repeatedly blaming my bank instead of taking the time to explain the situation or offer a solution. When I told him I had somewhere to be and asked him to simply print what he claimed I owed so I could contact my bank later, he seemed reluctant to let me leave. Thankfully, my husband came over to see what was happening and what was taking so long.
This experience was frustrating, confusing, and completely unnecessary. Between the premature charge attempts, the confusing payment process, and the poor customer service, I will not be staying at another Holiday Inn.

I had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. During my extended stay, I was overcharged and had to pay rates that were around $250 per night, which is more than I’ve paid at many 5-star hotels. The value simply wasn’t there.
The housekeeping staff was rude and seemed bothered whenever room cleaning was requested. Even then, the room was only cleaned halfway, and I often ended up throwing away my own trash because it wasn’t being taken care of.
To make matters worse, I was charged $100 for a missing hand towel, which is completely unreasonable. A hand towel is nowhere near worth that amount, and it felt like another way to overcharge guests.
The most upsetting part of my stay was discovering that my engagement ring went missing. I immediately reported it and asked if the hotel could review their security camera footage or conduct an investigation. They refused to do either, which left me feeling completely dismissed. Whether or not the ring could have been recovered, I expected the hotel to take my concern seriously and at least make an effort to investigate.
I also tried to speak with management about these issues, but the manager was never available and never followed up. Customer service was nonexistent.
Overall, this place felt like a rip-off. Between the excessive charges, poor housekeeping, the lack of concern over my missing engagement ring, and the absence of management support, I would not recommend staying here. There are far better hotels that offer better service, cleaner rooms, and more reasonable pricing.
