  We had an absolutely wonderful time hosting our fantasy reading retreat at Hill Farm Inn. From seamless event coordinating with Steph to spectacular on site service with Joanne, Abby, and the rest of the staff - we were so well taken care of throughout our weekend stay. We chose Hill Farm Inn for a personal connection and that New England early fall ambiance. The grounds in September were so calm, atmospheric, and picturesque. Our guests loved the outside seating, feeding the alpacas, and the absolutely delicious farm to table meals. The Inn is quaint but the attention to details in service made the entire experience luxurious. There were even warm biscuits at breakfast shaped like alpacas! Our team and guests had such a restorative and enjoyable time on property. We could not recommend Hill Farm Inn enough and we hope to return to host a future Forest & Fawn reading retreat here. We are so grateful!

  This was our first time staying at Hill Farm Inn. We have traveled to Vermont several times and stay at Bed and Breakfasts. This place felt peaceful. The warm welcome from Joann, the cats Tiger and Maple and the cozy atmosphere created a very comforting space. The Chef Maria made amazing breakfasts and the food was fantastic. We also enjoyed The Restaurant at Hill Farm. The food was exceptional! The grounds were beautiful and beyond scenic views. We will be back.

Unfortunately, despite the beautiful property, our experience with the customer service was extremely disappointing. We made one reservation for two rooms because we were traveling together as a group of friends and wanted to stay close to each other. When we arrived, we were given rooms in two completely different buildings. We asked if it would be possible to have two rooms in the same building, especially since the hotel appeared to be almost completely empty. We were told that they had hosted an event the previous day and that some of the rooms had not been cleaned yet. We explained that we were absolutely willing to wait — even for several hours — if that meant we could stay in the same building. Still, the staff refused to help us and simply said there was nothing they could do. The way they communicated with us was also quite rude and dismissive. What made the situation even more confusing was that the hotel seemed practically empty, yet somehow there was no possibility of finding two rooms near each other. One of our rooms was also given a direct view of a cemetery, which was definitely not what we expected. The property itself is actually very beautiful, with lovely grounds, adorable llamas, and two very cute cats living on the property. Unfortunately, there are also a huge number of mosquitoes, and we did not notice any mosquito repellents or apparent mosquito-control measures around the outdoor areas. Breakfast was another disappointing experience. My pregnant friend asked if they could prepare an omelet for her and was told that they could not. Shortly afterward, another guest arrived and was served a large omelet. When we asked again, suddenly we were told, “Of course, we can make you an omelet,” even though they had refused just minutes earlier. This made the situation even more frustrating and uncomfortable. Overall, the hotel and its surroundings are beautiful and have a lot of potential, but unfortunately the customer service was terrible. For a hospitality business, the way guests are treated matters just as much as the property itself. A little flexibility, kindness, and willingness to help would have completely changed our experience.

  We chose Hill Farm because it was promoted as an Orvis-endorsed fly-fishing property, but the inn did not live up to expectations for accommodation costing more than $300 per night. Our fishing excursion had been noted on the reservation, as the inn later confirmed, but there was still confusion at check-in about arranging breakfast before our early departure. My husband had to guide reception through contacting the kitchen. The inn subsequently explained that early breakfasts are not arranged automatically, even for fly-fishing guests. That seems poorly suited to an Orvis property working directly with a fishing outfitter whose guests need to leave before the normal 8am breakfast. The biggest problem was the soundproofing. We could hear the television, conversations, coughing and snoring from the neighbouring room and had a terrible night’s sleep. The bathroom light also flickered, the toilet was unstable, the toilet paper was very cheap single-ply, and there was no fridge in the room. There are no staff available when needed. The inn apologised after we complained, which we appreciated, but the overall stay still represented very poor value. The restaurant, however, was fantastic. The food and dining experience were excellent and felt like a completely different standard from the inn itself. I would happily return to the restaurant, but I would not stay at the inn again.

  Terrific ambiance, JoAnn is a great hands on always available director at the Inn on the Farm. Plenty of trails, fly fishing nearby, several alpacas to welcome your daily routine. Breakfast is a top event, homemade pancakes, french toast along with fresh fruit and veggies from the garden. Rooms show great attention to detail, the stay is a premium top value experience. Perfect weekend getaway. Coming back next year
