We stayed at the SureStay Studio by Best Western in Virginia Beach, and overall it was a disappointing experience for the price point. If you are a family looking for a comfortable vacation experience, I would strongly recommend spending a little more somewhere else.
The room itself looked okay at first glance, but once you settle in, the problems become noticeable. The room felt humid, the sheets felt slightly moist, and the overall indoor air quality was poor. It honestly felt like the air filters and air intakes/exhausts are not maintained regularly. (We checked, last changed in January 6th, and the filter was something you buy at the dollar store.) Cleaning was below average, we found crumbs, sand, and even small pieces of glass left behind. The kitchen setup was disappointing too. The pots, pans, and silverware were random mismatched items and did not appear properly cleaned, meaning you’ll probably end up washing dishes yourself before even using them.
The toaster in our room did not work at all. The shower pressure was weak, and hot water took a long time to come back. The room layout was awkward as well, especially around the bathroom and bedroom entrance area.
Customer service was inconsistent throughout the stay. Every day the front desk seemed to give different information depending on who you spoke with. When calling for towels or pillows, they would not bring them to the room, which became frustrating during a family stay.
Parking was one of the biggest annoyances, only ONE car per room. In a tourist area where families often travel together, this policy made things unnecessarily stressful.
The location itself is good because it’s close to the boardwalk and beach access, and Virginia Beach overall is still a great place to visit. But the hotel experience itself felt more like a budget motel than a relaxing family vacation hotel. It lacked that “wow” factor, comfort, and family-friendly atmosphere that makes vacations memorable.
If you are traveling solo, on a strict budget, or just need a place to sleep, this might work for you. But for families looking for a vacation experience they’ll enjoy and reflect on positively later, I would stay elsewhere. The rest of Virginia Beach will feel exciting and enjoyable, the hotel will probably leave you thinking, “I wish we picked somewhere else.”
