  We were last here two years ago and will likely return again. It is a well maintained Holiday Inn Express (not all are). Its location is superb, views magnificent, employees are all wonderful and nice, and the breakfast is a notch above the standard Holiday Inn Express quality. However, the few shortcomings remain unchanged and two are added. The parking is still an issue, but it used to be included in the price. The front desk person said that Virginia Beach now requires all hotels to charge, so we were hit with a $16 per day fee that we were not expecting. If this is mentioned on the website, it should be more prominent. There are now large boxes seemingly stored in the hallways which is unseemly for guests and get in the way a bit. One elevator, then the other broke down but were serviced quickly. WiFi is still spotty (we stayed in room 616) and we never got more than two bars and frequently just one. The review from two years ago still applies (and follows): We stayed in a suite as we like sitting on a couch and read to close our evenings. The room was very nice. What was exceptional was there was room to lay out two suitcases, which is unheard of. The view was amazing. It is located on the beach with a spectacular view. Restaurants and activities are nearby. When we come back to Virginia Beach, we will stay here. We were very happy with this hotel with just a few exceptions. * The WiFi did not reach our room very well. As long as we were close to the hallway, it was OK. Forget getting any signal close to the balcony nor outside. * When the AC turned on, it sounded like a jet taking off (pun intended). Well, almost. And it was located about four feet from my head while I was trying to sleep. It took a night or two for me to sleep through it. Is anyone who designs these rooms a light sleeper? * Having a safe is expected and we were not disappointed. However, it was located in the closet at the intersection of the two sliding doors making getting into it or setting the code awkward. A little to one side and it would have been perfect. * As far as we could tell, there was not a wall light switch in the bedroom. It was a small rocker switch located under the TV and above each bed end table. * Parking outside the hotel is tight - get there early. * The breakfasts are usual Holiday Inn Express fare. The scrambled eggs are tasteless. The rest is OK. By the third morning, we were bored by it. Note: There are a few negative reviews on here. I wonder if they confused the Holiday Inn and the Holiday Inn Express. We stayed in the Holiday Inn [four] years ago and this hotel, the Express, is superior.

  Overall it was a nice room for a few days stay. The bed needed flipping or turning as it sagged on one side. The room had an odd smell, AC filters were dirty, the toilet needed a better cleaning under the edge/rim, and it is horrible to have to reach behind you for toilet paper. Hotel felt safe, easy access to beach and boardwalk, good location and beach view. Breakfast was better than most I've had at hotels with hot and cold options, and can get coffee almost all day if it's working. Small fitness center with some aerobic machines and free weights and small indoor pool. Small grassy areas in back of hotel if you take your dog. Would consider staying here again if I'm in the area.

  As a silver elite member it pains me to give a review as such. The owner of this location could care less about your stay after he gets his money from you. Parking is a mess. Not enough spots for the guests that stay there, and the parking spots are so tight that even if you park in the center of the lines, you will definitely get some serious door ding damage because the next car will only be less than 12 to 15 inches away. The layout of the breakfast bar is a total cluster. Given the fact that you first come upon the milk, then you walk to the next area to get your cereal, then you walk to the next area to get your bowl and spoon. Given the fact there is one way in and one way out, you have to repeatedly go through the line to get your bowl first, go through the line, get the cereal, go back through the line so that you can then get your milk. The hot food was also a disappointment as the bacon was greasy and hard. No scramble eggs for 4 day stay. Sausage was dry and the edges were hard. The hot cake station was also laid out in a horrible way. First, you come upon the machine that makes the hotcakes, then you have to step to the next station where you can get your plate. Then step to the next station to get your syrup. Many trips through the line just so that you can finally get what you need. Very poor layout and design on this. Hot breakfast. The OJ was gross and undrinkable. The wife said the coffee was very good and fresh. One of the worst parts of this $300 a night stay was the fact we were in a suite. The suite never got down to a comfortable temperature, so the hotel provided us with a fan. The main bedroom, which had a king-size bed in it, was nothing more than a single mattress set on a Murphy bed frame. Very uncomfortable to say the least. The bathroom was tiny at best, with a single sink, with very little counter space. It was a very shallow tub. Period. It is clear that this bathroom was probably part of the original building period. The only positive was the fact that the hot water was hot on demand. The hotel only has two elevators to service the ten floors. Once you step out of the elevator, you are welcomed by two very large laundry carts that stayed in the hallway throughout our whole stay. I cannot in good conscience, even as a Silver Elite member who has stayed at hundreds of hotels with IHG, recommend anyone stay at this hotel. For the cost that they ask for, period, at best, this is a hundred-dollar-a-night hotel. The hotel staff was friendly at all times.
