I am writing to provide feedback regarding my recent stay this weekend. Unfortunately, based on my overall experience, I would rate my stay a 2/10.
One of the few positives I can mention is that the **location was convenient and worked well for us**. However, there were several issues throughout our stay that made the experience disappointing.
First, I would not consider the hotel to be particularly family-friendly, at least based on my experience. There were a significant number of dogs staying at the hotel, and there was frequent barking throughout our stay. I am a dog owner myself, so I completely understand that dogs will make noise, but traveling with a one-year-old made it especially difficult to enjoy any peace and quiet, particularly during nap time.
I was also surprised to find that a standard crib costs $50. For a hotel that presents itself as family-friendly, I would expect a basic crib to either be complimentary or at least reasonably priced. A crib is a fairly standard accommodation at many family-oriented hotels, so the additional $50 charge was disappointing.
The condition of the room was another concern. There was a noticeable smell in the room, which I assume may have been related to the carpeting. Additionally, the corner chair had what appeared to be leftover sand from a previous guest. These details gave the impression that the room could have been cleaned more thoroughly before our arrival.
Unfortunately, the customer service was also a major issue. While the front desk receptionist who checked us in was pleasant, the check-in process took approximately 30 minutes. Once we were checked in, we were not provided with basic information about the hotel, such as where the pool was located, the pool hours, where breakfast was served, or what time breakfast was available. These are simple details that I would expect to be communicated during check-in, especially to guests traveling with a young child.
More concerning, some of the staff interactions were unnecessarily rude and came across as having a significant attitude. I understand that working in hospitality can be challenging, but guests should still be treated with courtesy and professionalism. If someone is unhappy working in a customer-facing position, that should not be reflected in the way guests are treated.
Overall, the combination of the room condition, noise, unexpected crib charge, lengthy check-in, lack of basic information, and poor customer service made this a very disappointing stay. Unfortunately, I do not plan to stay at this hotel again.
I hope management takes this feedback seriously and uses it as an opportunity to improve the guest experience, particularly for families.

Had a wonderful stay at Garner Hotel Virginia Beach North! The hotel was clean, comfortable, and in a great location, just a short walk from the beach and boardwalk. We had a view of the beach from our room! The room was spacious and well kept, and the bed was very comfortable.
The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, and the complimentary breakfast was a great bonus. I also loved the little touches like the fresh warm cookies as a welcome gift, and snacks. Overall, it was a great value for the location and I would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend!

Absolutely terrible experience at this hotel. I’ve stayed tons of places and never again will I ever come back here. I ordered a room with 2 queen beds and a pull out couch (family of 6) also paid extra for a “partial beach view “ we arrived at midnight and after a 10 hour drive to the beach we were given a room with 1 queen sized bed (not told that until we walked into the room and discovered it) went back to the desk and the woman said there was nothing they could do to help us and we could stay in that room and talk to management tomorrow (yes 6 people in 1 queen bed) and it was all they could do… there was nothing available and they were totally booked…. I called Expedia and somehow “a man wanted a first floor room” and they could give us the room we ordered (keep in mind we moved from room 118 to 108… which is clearly the same floor. And he apparently decided he wanted to move at 2 am and had the exact room we had ordered LOL) the woman asked me to get the kids and have them come to the lobby while she cleaned the room for us (we had our room in 20 mins and the receptionist cleaned it, and it definitely wasn’t vacuumed ) …. I was not sitting my kids who have been sitting in a car all day…then in the wrong room for 2 hours … to sit in the lobby at 2 am…. Check out the front door/windows at 2am on a Friday night and then ask me why I said no……I called and asked about a second car DAYS prior to our trip and they said I’d have to pay for both cars but never told me until we had already gotten here with 2 cars that we can only have one… ironically. A guest was at the desk the same time as me and requested a visitors parking pass and stated she’s been here for months and she had gotten them in the past and it’s just 15 bucks extra for the night
( exactly what I was told) so then we had to find a place to buy parking for our 4 day trip. When I became upset about how crazy this entire situation was (bc truthfully I wanted to cry bc I brought our kids to the beach as a surprise trip) she literally laughed at me. We asked to speak to a manager and she called the manager and then left (to apparently clean the room for 20 mins) and still didn’t get to speak to a manager.. even after asking to talk to someone. The entire 2 hours I was there waiting to find a room for our family (you know the one they couldn’t make but once Expedia contacted them, they had someone who wanted to trade their extra large room for a queen bed (rolls my eyes) at 2am……every guest waited a min of 30 minutes to get assistance… some wayyyy longer. I didn’t even mention I was to have a partial beach view and I got a view of a hotel and a convenience store. Let me recommend the oceanfront by Wyndham. Same prices… better staff.. and a partial ocean view is AMAZING..only reason I ended up at this hotel was because the wyndam was booked. Whoever the night shift woman was on 7/31 …. She sure needs some training in her people skills and maybe more training because she would tell one lie and then backtrack it with another lie (ex: we can’t do anything for you there’s nothing available at all, oh wait a man at 2 am said he wanted a smaller room and happens to have the size room you need … lol did you call him at 2 am?!?!?!?

Spent the past week at this hotel for a softball tournament with our team. I would not recommend, especially if you are in a group with other families. The pool is small with only 4 lounge chairs and 3 tables with around 15 chairs to sit at. The pool is the only place to gather with other people. There is no lobby. So when the pool closes at 10pm you literally get kicked out to either stand around in the parking lot or forced to go to your room. Wasn’t convenient for 8 families on a softball team trip. They closed the pool one day for weather. It was literally drizzling on and off. No lightning or thunder. We had come back from spending a few hours at the beach and the kids wanted to jump in the pool. Front desk staff told us they couldn’t open it d/t weather. I asked to speak to a manager. There is never a manager on site. They always have to call the manager. They came back and told us the manager said the pool can’t be opened because the rain messes with the chemicals. Ha. What a joke. At that point I told them I would be leaving this review on Google. 5 min later we watched the staff unlock the pool area and walk away. Never checked the chemicals that the rain supposedly messes with.
Also, we checked in a day early. They had a room available but no way to link it to my other booking. Couldn’t even promise me I’d get to stay in the same room. It did work out for me to stay in the same room but I had to come down the next morning to check out and then re-check in. It’s 2026 and they can’t link two bookings together.
The rooms themselves are large and clean. The beds were comfortable. Refrigerator is tiny, along with the bathroom. No counter space at all. Housekeeping staff was great. Breakfast staff was good and friendly. Food is the same thing every day though. One small elevator for 6 floors. You wait a long time Somedays. Oh and the workout room is a joke. No weights, a few mats and an exercise ball with nothing provided to clean them when you’re done. Probably better off to bring your own workout equipment (small weights and/or bands) or join a local gym as a visitor for a week.
