Traveling while disabled is already bad enough. Having to educate the front desk about state and federal access laws makes it worse.
Having the staff insisting that discrimination is policy and that access barriers are standard even when educated on the standards is just not okay.

I recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Shenandoah National Park. Although the hotel is on the older side & the rooms are a bit beat up, it was actually clean & we had no issues. The hotel is only 30 minutes away from Dickey Ridge Visitor Center & Skyline Road.
Staff was very friendly, breakfast was decent. It's obviously not Michelin star but you can definitely eat a good breakfast to start the day (fruits, whole wheat bread, various style eggs/ omelettes, pastries, yogurt, bacon or sausage, etc.).
Beds were very comfortable & we got great nights sleep our entire 3-night stay. The room is a bit humid (as is with most budget hotels...), but you can open the window or run the AC while you're away to dehumidify it.
When we drove down to Front Royal, we noticed most hotels were tiny little run-down motels, so it was worth it for us to stay here at Holiday Inn Express in Stephens City. You can't beat the price & location!

The hotel is clean, the entire staff is friendly & helpful. Nicholas, one of the staff members was especially pleasant to talk with. He's a fine young man.
We've stayed here twice, & the service is consistently good.
Do not put your room's magnetic key cards near anything electronic. We were constantly getting our keys reflashed, even after being especially careful with them. As an example, I had the keys reflashed, used one once, & withing a few minutes had to get them reflashed again. Often times when the key did work, the latch still wouldn't release, & we would have to swipe the card reader multiple times to open our door.
The elevator is not fast. If you're staying on the second floor, the stairs are the way to go.
Regardless, it is a good place to stay if you need a room in this area.

The wife and I recently went out of town and decided to stay here over night. I read a lot of the reviews ahead of time, and admittedly, some of the more recent reviews had me a bit nervous about our arrival. However, we had ZERO issues. The hotel is situated close enough to town to get there and explore old Winchester while being far away enough from the majority of the traffic. The room itself was clean, smelled great and freshly cleaned, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The staff was polite and accommodating, the area was safe, and the experience was fantastic.
If I absolutely had to nitpick about one improvement it would be that the continental breakfast was so-so but that’s the least of our concern when staying somewhere. Will absolutely stay here again when we are in the area.

staff were very friendly and helpful. Before I retired on 2022, I did a lot of traveling and stayed at Holiday Inns, always felt comfortable and safe.I have a few concerns now Lighting in the room was very low. Ceiling in the bathroom had water stains, tub could be replaced and the key to my room did not work, the gentleman across the hall and 2 doors down also, had to go to the desk and the worker took care of it. Doors need to be updated. Thank you!
