Wow. This was one of the worst hotel check-in experiences I have ever had.
We arrived at the hotel after driving approximately four hours with a baby and children in the car. It took nearly an hour just to get someone to answer the front door. When the front desk employee finally came to the door, we explained that we had a reservation. Before even checking our reservation, she questioned when our booking was for.
She then told us that because it was after midnight, she needed to call the manager. This was frustrating because we had already paid in advance, the hotel had previously called us, and we clearly told them that we were still coming.
What made the situation even more unprofessional was that instead of helping us check in, the employee went outside, sat in a car, and smoked a cigarette for several minutes while our family continued waiting. When she finally walked back into the hotel, I actually had to ask her, “Are you ready to check us in?”
After finally completing the check-in process, we went all the way upstairs with our children and luggage only to discover that the room keys did not work. I came back downstairs and found the employee in the kitchen preparing breakfast. I waved her down and explained that our keys were not working. Instead of immediately assisting us, she told me to hold on. No exaggeration, we waited around another 10 minutes before she finally came out to fix the keys.
At this point, it was around 5:00 in the morning. We had driven four hours, had a baby and children with us, and simply wanted to get into our room and rest. The employee appeared irritated that we had arrived at that hour, even though the hotel knew we were coming.
This employee seriously needs additional customer service training, and the hotel needs better overnight staffing. One person should not be expected to prepare breakfast while also being responsible for the front desk and arriving guests.
This happened on a Friday night in Virginia Beach during Fourth of July weekend. The hotel should have anticipated that it would be busy and staffed accordingly.
The entire experience was unprofessional, frustrating, and unacceptable. Guests who have already paid for their rooms should not be left waiting outside for nearly an hour, especially families traveling with small children.

I stayed in this hotel 3 weeks ago, one of the lights in the bathroom was completely out, making it hard to use the mirror. I reported it as I checked out, no problem. 3 weeks later, I get assigned the same room, light still not fixed. They are aware and clearly don't intend on fixing it. Who knows what else they ignore.

First off, the staff are beyond the sweetest to customers, even after a long day of work. The king size room is so big and your room has its own private door, separates from the sofa bed. It's so clean! Showers were good, breakfast was good and location was so easy to find but even if it didnt have all that, i would come back because of the friendly staff that make you feel so welcome😊 service desk and breakfast lady needs a raise!
