  First time in the hotel and that part of Alexandria. the room was clean , the bed was comfortable enough also the pillows were comfortable BUT ! The room has a terrible outdoor noise ( vehicles, people) and also indoor noise coming from partying guests. The room has as they called “ beautiful neighborhood views “ , but sadly was for sure difficult to stay asleep with such noise. This was a one time occurrence for us , my husband and I are always so busy, last time we were able to get away was 4 years ago, so it was disappointing for sure . One only want to be in a clean , comfortable place to spend a weekend without having to deal with unnecessary stress.

  Parking can be tricky, but the hotel is lovely and the staff are very friendly. The main street of Old Town is just a short walk away, and the waterfront is lovely.

  Beware of the Mandatory 20% Service Charge — Then an Additional Tip Request I was extremely disappointed with the restaurant billing practice at Hotel Indigo Alexandria. The breakfast menu clearly states that a mandatory 20% service charge is applied to all checks. I specifically confirmed with the restaurant that this 20% service charge is for the server. What I found very troubling was what happened when I received my bill. After automatically adding the 20% service charge, the receipt then presented suggested additional tips of 18%, 20%, 22%, and 25% — as though the 20% service charge had not already been added. Even more concerning, the receipt states that these additional suggested tips are calculated on the entire $35.84 check, which already includes the 20% service charge, tax, and credit-card fee. In my case, a $27 breakfast had a $5.40 mandatory service charge added, and then I was presented with a suggested 20% additional tip of $7.17. That could result in a guest paying approximately 40% or more above the original food subtotal in service charge and additional gratuity alone, particularly if they do not notice that the 20% has already been included. I raised this concern with the front desk and explained how misleading this could be to guests. Their response was essentially that the additional tip is optional and guests can give the server more if they choose. Of course a guest should always be free to leave something extra for exceptional service. My concern is with automatically presenting another set of percentage-based tip suggestions after a mandatory 20% service charge has already been imposed, without prominently telling the guest that the server has already received a service charge and that no additional gratuity is necessary. Hotel Indigo should change this receipt format. At minimum, it should clearly state: “20% service charge already included. Additional gratuity is optional.” Guests deserve complete transparency when it comes to service charges and tipping. I have included photographs of both the menu and my receipt so others can see exactly what I experienced.

  Absolutely will be returning here. The staff were all friendly and kind. The room was spotless and well appointed. It’s a great location near many amazing attractions.
