It's a monument to the first Mormon Pioneers to enter the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, led by Brigham Young. Historical photos show the monument in the center of the intersection of Main Street (originally called East Temple) and South Temple. Brigham Young is shown standing with his back to the temple, hand outstretched towards the Zions Bank building 😂
