Our stay at the Holiday Inn in Salt Lake City–South Murray was fine overall, and we had no major issues during our visit. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing when I accidentally left my jacket in the closet after checking out.
I contacted the hotel the same day as check-out to let them know I had left my jacket behind. I was told that housekeeping would check the room and that I would be contacted with an update. Unfortunately, I was later told that the jacket had not been found. Since I know exactly where I left it, it was very frustrating and disappointing to receive that response.
What was even more disappointing was the lack of follow-up. I specifically asked that someone contact me with an update, whether the jacket was found or not, but I never received a call. Instead, I had to initiate the calls myself to find out if there was any update.
I also emailed the General Manager directly regarding the situation and did not receive any acknowledgment that my email had been received or any response. The lack of communication throughout the process was extremely disappointing.
While the stay itself was satisfactory, the way this situation was handled left a negative impression. I was disappointed with the customer service, lack of communication, and follow-through.
A word of advice to future guests: Make sure you double-check your room and take everything with you when you check out. Based on my experience, if you accidentally leave something behind, don't assume it will be returned to you or that the hotel will follow up with you.
Hana was way too busy on phone during her helping me check in. Rude and short with me. Explained absolutely nothing related to charges and hotel features. Hana needs a refresh on customer service 101!!!
I am aware that I made a reservation and arrived late; however, the hotel receptionists were not particularly friendly and appeared eager to ask us to leave. I felt as though I was requesting permission to stay in their house. Please be advised that staff members working at the front desk should improve their customer service skills.

Overall, this was a great hotel for the price. I have to say, it was probably the most affordable Holiday Inn Express I’ve ever stayed at. There were a few disappointing things, but I kept reminding myself that the price was very reasonable.
Our room was a good size, although the bed was uncomfortable. Some of the furniture could also use an update, as there were several scratches and areas where the paint was missing. The biggest annoyance was the air conditioner. It didn’t keep the room very cool, especially at night, and it made a constant ticking noise that could drive some guests a little crazy.
I was also disappointed with breakfast. The exact same food appeared to be served two days in a row, and my daughter kept saying that it tasted strange. I decided to have cereal instead, thinking that would be the safest option. However, when I opened the refrigerator, I found a pitcher of milk with no expiration date visible. I am someone who always checks and smells milk before drinking it, and this milk looked and smelled off.
The day before, I remember seeing an employee carry in an already-open gallon of milk with “July 18” written on it in large black marker. Since our stay was well past July 18, I became concerned that the milk may have been expired or spoiled. I would strongly recommend offering individual milk cartons or leaving the milk in its original container so guests can clearly see the expiration date. Guests should be able to verify that what they are being served is fresh.
The pool area could also use some updating and better air circulation. After being in the room for a while, I started to get a headache. We were also unable to enjoy the hot tub the following evening because a large group of teenage boys appeared to be having a party. They were extremely loud and disruptive, which made it difficult for anyone else to relax and enjoy the area.
Aside from those issues, I thought the hotel was nice. The lobby was well maintained, and the entire property appeared to be cleaned very thoroughly. These were simply the concerns I noticed during my stay. Overall, I would still consider staying here again because of the cleanliness, convenient accommodations, and excellent price.

This experience has been the worst by far, and unsettling to find many others before me had the same problem. There were someone else's socks hidden on under the bed, stains on the lamp shades and the bed covers, crumbs under the tables, and how do I even describe the attitude of the housekeeping. The sideeyes and eyerolls are no where near professional. Whoever the managers are should give them a reality check, and tell them how to act as true service. As someone who spent a period of time in varied services, via chickfila, I have had to act beyond my comfort zone in order to provide the most satisfying experience for 100s to 1000s of customers.
I was glad that we brought this to the decks attention on our way out, hopefully the managers fire or hire a better service for many other guests.
