Absolutely appalling stay at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sweetwater, Texas.
I paid approximately $185 for one night and, as an IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite and Ambassador member, I was genuinely shocked by the condition of the room provided.
The entire room felt dirty, neglected, and badly in need of refurbishment. The carpets were filthy, threadbare, and clearly had not been properly vacuumed. The furniture was old, shabby, stained, and looked as though it had not been deep cleaned in years. The desk chair and sofa were particularly unpleasant.
The bathroom was even worse, with visible mould around the shower area, stained fittings, and an overall unhygienic appearance. There was residue left on top of the fridge from previous occupants, drawers contained dirt and hairs, and the windows looked as though they had not been cleaned in an extremely long time. Paintwork throughout the room was damaged, stained, and poorly maintained, while curtains were dirty and falling apart.
Most concerning of all was exposed wiring beneath the desk area, which raised genuine safety concerns.
This was not simply a “dated” hotel room — it was a room that failed basic cleanliness and maintenance standards. I took photographs throughout the stay because the condition of the accommodation was so unacceptable.
What made the experience even more disappointing was the lack of response from the hotel management after I contacted them directly to request a refund. Customer service and accountability appear to be seriously lacking at this property.
IHG Customer Relations acknowledged the complaint and provided goodwill points, which in itself demonstrates that the concerns raised were legitimate. However, the hotel itself did not engage or take ownership of the situation.
I would strongly advise other travellers to think carefully before booking this property until substantial improvements in cleanliness, maintenance, and overall standards are made.
The hotel is dated, furniture is dirty, broken and the walls need attention and this is just one room. If you can, stay someplace else.

This was one of the worst HIEs in quite some time.
The property was not secure. Over night the front doors were open and the desk employee was doing laundry. Side door was broken and someone could just walk in.
Our bathroom was dirty, desk chair should be burned.
The breakfast was average.
I would not recommend this location until it gets updated.
It took the staff three times to get two room keys to work?

Needs significant renovation. Everything is very well used, marked, scratched. Sharkbite fitting holding on the shower head. Unsafe dimly lit property at night. I mean, it was a hotel room but not a very nice one. Worst HIE I’ve stayed in by a lot.

HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! Was waiting to hear from hotel manager, to see about making things right or at least try and make an attempt at it, but here we are 4 days later and I still haven't heard anything from anyone. So I guess I'll leave a review... Anyway, got to the hotel as it was just me and my two kids, just to find out that the pool is out of order. They had been asking all day if they could go swimming tonight and I promised them they could when we stopped at the hotel for the night. Well, that didn't happen as the clerk heard them asking about going swimming and told us that the pool was out of order. Now Ive got two disappointed kids but oh well, we managed. Later in the night after checking into our room and falling asleep, I wake up around 3:30am and use the flashlight on cellphone to check on my kids. Well low and behold, I see two bedbugs in the bed my son and I are sleeping in. I grab a piece of tissue and squeeze them, and they explode with blood. I then rush to the front desk with the tissue and the clerk (who was nice and trying to help) says she can only move us to another room, which was directly next to the room we were already in! I come back to the room and find more bugs on the bed my son and I were sleeping on, and the bed my daughter was sleeping on! I'm not feeling the most confident that they aren't in the new room either as it's directly next to the infested room. So at about 4:30am'ish, I shower my kids and we pack up and leave the hotel. If you are in the area of Sweetwater TX, I would highly suggest staying elsewhere unless you want to risk sleeping with bedbugs, and as in my case, having two kids being disappointed since the pool is out of order!
