We had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. On our first night, we had to request a room change because there was mold throughout the entire restroom. This was especially frustrating because we were only staying for one night.
The following morning, we went downstairs for breakfast and were told by other guests that there had been multiple car break-ins in the hotel parking lot. When we went outside to check our vehicle, police were on the scene, and we saw multiple cars with their windows shattered. Thankfully, our vehicle was not one of the ones broken into, but there were several other guests whose vehicles were damaged.
What was even more concerning was that the hotel never made any announcement or notification to guests about the break-ins. If the other guests hadn’t told us, we would have had no idea what had happened until we went outside and potentially discovered damage to our own vehicle.

We checked in for a twobnight stay on July 27 because of how close this hotel is to SeaWorld. Unfortunately, the convenience wasn’t worth the experience.
When we got to our room on the third floor, the door was unlocked. The front cover of the A/C unit had been removed and was leaning by the door, with screws sitting on top of the unit. There was also a puddle of water on the floor. The toilet hadn’t been cleaned and still had toilet paper in it. Overall, the room looked like it hadn’t been properly prepared for new guests.
We were on a tight schedule after driving in from the Houston area, so we dropped off our belongings and left for our plans. The staff immediately acknowledged the A/C issue and offered to move us. However, after seeing several other rooms on the floor with A/C covers removed outside their doors, it appeared to be a widespread problem. Since our stay was booked with points and finding another hotel at the last minute wasn’t realistic, we decided to make the best of it.
When we returned that evening, we realized just how dirty the bathroom was. There were hairs, dirt, rust, and a bathtub that looked like it hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned in quite some time. We actually wore our Crocs while showering because we didn’t feel comfortable standing in the tub barefoot. Even the towels had stains and looked unclean.
I want to be clear that the staff working during our check in were kind, professional, and did everything they could within their ability to help us with the A/C situation. This review is not directed at them. The issue is with the condition of the property and the lack of cleanliness.
What disappointed me even more was reading through the reviews after we checked in. I wish we had done that beforehand. There are review after review describing the exact same issues, dirty bathrooms, stained towels, poor housekeeping, and maintenance problems and many of them go back several years. The management responses always say they’ll address the concerns, yet guests continue reporting the same problems. From a guest’s perspective, it doesn’t seem like meaningful improvements have been made.
Because this hotel is so close to SeaWorld, I imagine many families stay here once while visiting and never return. That’s unfortunate because the location is excellent, but the condition of the rooms overshadows that convenience.
We’ve stayed in hotels all over, and while I’ve never personally stayed in a motel, this room reminded me of the kind of experiences people describe when talking about dirty roadside motels. That is not at all what I expected from this property.
We’re actually still here as I write this review, and honestly, we can’t wait to leave. It’s disappointing that a hotel in such a great location has allowed cleanliness and maintenance to become such a long-standing issue. Guests deserve better than this.
I didn’t know how to add photos to my review but I took plenty for when I figure out how.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in San Antonio near SeaWorld yesterday, and honestly, it was the worst experience I've ever had! Amber, Mexican woman with glasses was rude and untrained. She really shouldn’t be front line representing IHG at all! I’d be ashamed! She shouldn’t be the face of Holiday Inn not with the attitude and lack of care that she gives her child (YES, her minor daughter) When we got there, it was shift change, and I noticed other families at the front desk complaining about dirty rooms, bed bugs, and other issues. I finally got checked in, but when we inspected our room, it was filthy—hair, dirt, bugs, and a big red stain on the mattress. We went back down, and the evening front desk lady was swamped with complaints. She listened briefly and switched our room saying “she was running out of options / rooms”. The new room had the same problems, plus bugs. Since it was late and I had my children with me, we went to Walmart for cleaning supplies and did it ourselves. The lady suggested we talk to Amber in the morning about everything we went through since she wasn’t able to reach her at the time. *UPDATE* This morning, as we entered back from my son’s appointment I stopped at the desk where there were multiple people (behind the desk) so I waited my turn to be assisted. I asked the lady (Amber) for her name to make sure I could put a face to who I’ve been talking with on the phone. At first, she listened and said she would issue a full refund for the inconvenience and stated that “lately this has been a problem with housekeeping” I expressed to her that we travel far away and this is not the experience we or anyone should have. She understood and said herself she wouldn’t stay in “filth”. While speaking with me Amber’s minor daughter who looked at least 3-5 years old was playing with a car on the floor that rolled up by where she and I were talking and she got upset and went to walk her back to the room she had her in. This is very unprofessional and unsafe as there are chemicals and bugs all on the ground and she has her child at the JOB where she cannot focus on Holiday Inn quality and standards. It’s unprofessional that she brings her child up there which keeps her from doing her job properly. As a manager myself, she is supposed to be able to check rooms after the housekeeping team brings their completion form. She can’t do that with a minor child lingering in the building. Shortly, after another customer arrived to the front desk and was standing behind me, the customer overheard part of our conversation as I was explaining to Amber the issues and concerns and the lady voiced her opinion and said “oh you’re here because your room was nasty too.?” I responded to her and said “yes ma’am” and she began to tell me how her room looked and we began having a conversation. Amber did not like that so she stepped back from the desk and said “you two need to be quiet right now!” I looked at her and told her “you don’t tell us customers what to do. I am not your child. Matter fact, you have your child up here at your JOB, which is unprofessional. Amber threatened to call the laws on me when I started asking for management numbers/names. She told me there is no one over her and I know that to be a lie. She walked away in a room and called 911 in which I told her I would wait for them to arrive and did in the last room given. We waited in our room for them to show up and no one came to our room after 45 minutes so we went downstairs to get the code for the safe as we had items in there and the code we used wasn’t working. Another lady (IRENE) who claimed to be in management came from around the corner to speak with me when Amber pointed to me and said something. Irene shared that Amber is having “babydaddy / no babysitter” issues and how she’s a single parent which is understandable I’ve been there as well. However I know IHG IS NOT ALLOWING workers to bring their children to work!!! Irene listened to my complaint and apologized for Amber’s behavior which she shouldn’t have had to do.
