I arrived on the evening of July 3. The day-shift front desk attendant who checked me in was very kind and helpful. The following review is not a reflection on her, to be very clear. She was *great*. Everything that followed was not.
A couple of hours after checking in, I noticed a roach in my room. While this wasn't a major issue by itself, as I understand an occasional insect can sometimes find its way indoors, I notified the front desk and asked whether the hotel had any spray I could use. The night shift attendant explained that she was new and brought me a can of Raid that was labeled for wasps and hornets. Since that product is not intended for indoor use, I chose not to use it and handled the situation myself.
Later that evening, as I was getting ready for bed, I realized the bed only had sheets and there was no blanket in the room or closet. I called the front desk several times, but no one answered. I went downstairs and found no one at the desk. There was someone asleep on the couch in the lobby, whom I believed to be the night attendant. I attempted to gently wake her but was unsuccessful, so I returned to my room and continued calling from my cell phone after the room phone also stopped working. Eventually, I went downstairs again and she was waking up on the couch and asked if I had been the one calling. I explained that I needed a blanket. She told me she hadn't realized the calls were coming from a guest and brought me a couple of blankets.
When I returned to my room and pulled back the sheets to get into bed, I discovered a large yellow stain on the sheet. As I removed that sheet and the layers underneath, I found multiple larger yellow and brown stains throughout the bedding, extending all the way down to the mattress. There were also a few very small black insects present, though they did not appear to be bed bugs. I was extremely disturbed by the condition of the bed.
I returned to the front desk and requested clean sheets. The attendant apologized and said she would leave a note for housekeeping before going into the linen room. She initially handed me additional blankets rather than sheets. I clarified that I needed bed sheets so I could replace the stained ones, even pointing out the shelf where they were stored. She then handed me a comforter instead of sheets, along with more blankets. At that point, I used the comforter as a barrier because it was the best option available.
The following day, I discovered that the ironing board had a broken leg and had to be propped against the wall to be usable. When I returned to the room later that evening, I found another roach.
I do want to add that I do not fault either front desk attendant. Both were kind and courteous. Although the night attendant was asleep in the lobby and appeared confused about the linens, she had mentioned that she was new, and I understand she may still have been learning the role. My concerns are primarily with the condition of the room and the housekeeping standards.
Just as an additional heads up, there is no conditioner, only shampoo, so be sure to bring this yourself if you are someone who uses it. If you're traveling from out of state and planing to use Uber or Lyft, it is difficult and at times impossible to find a rideshare service. Plan way ahead, schedule your uber rides at least a day in advance and have a backup plan. I was unable to get an uber in time for a wedding I was attending and missed the ceremony. I a found taxi service an hour away that was willing to come get me, which was very expensive. So, drive/rent a car if you can.
***There is no elevator. Maybe this is listed on the website. If it is, I missed it. Had to carry one luggage at a time up and down the stairs. I am physically able, so not the worst thing. But please be aware of that and be sure you request the first floor if stairs are not accessible for you.
