The San Luis Resort in Galveston, Texas, presents itself as a beautiful facility at first glance. Upon entering the lobby, guests are greeted with a stunning atmosphere and a pleasant scent, reminiscent of upscale hotels. However, the overall condition of the hotel reveals significant wear and tear that detracts from its five-star claim.
During my stay, I encountered several issues that warrant attention. Despite having a gift certificate for a complimentary one-night stay, my check-in experience was chaotic. The communication regarding how this promotional stay would be processed was unclear, leading to unnecessary confusion. Additionally, the gift certificate for breakfast at Blake’s Bistro Café was not honored, which was disappointing given it was offered as a prize during an industry event.
The charges for daybeds and cabanas seemed excessive at $500, and I was taken aback by the condition of the outdoor pillows and linens, which appeared soiled. Having visited various all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, I found the San Luis Resort lacking in comparison.
While the hospitality staff was friendly, clear communication seems to be an issue. Many staff members struggled to answer basic questions effectively, which hindered the guest experience. On-site dining options fell flat; although the food was acceptable, it did not stand out in any way and left much to be desired.
The room itself, while nicely appointed, showed signs of neglect with cleanliness issues—fingerprints on surfaces, rust in the tub, and cracks in the grout. These details are unexpected in a facility claiming high standards. Though I stayed in room 610, I would advise potential guests to reconsider based on the overall upkeep.
One notable concern was the dining policy for outside meals, which required guests to use to-go boxes. This approach feels inappropriate for a resort of this caliber, as it compromises the dining experience.
In summary, my time at the San Luis Resort did not align with the expectations set for a five-star establishment. It’s evident that while there are elements of hospitality present, the management's investment in maintenance and guest experience needs significant improvement. Overall, I would rate this resort at 3.5 stars, and I suggest potential visitors consider other options if they are seeking an authentic luxury experience.

Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! Everything was outstanding: the hotel, the atmosphere, the service, and especially the staff.
A very special recognition to Tatiana at Blake’s Bistro. Her service was absolutely spectacular! She took care of us yesterday, and we enjoyed her service so much that we came back today and specifically requested her as our waitress. She is incredibly kind, attentive, professional, and truly makes you feel welcomed. Tatiana is exceptional!
We also want to recognize the wonderful team at The Cove, especially Luciana, Rachell, Anabel, Kendra, Kenya, and everyone else. Their service and hospitality were outstanding.
Definitely a 5-star experience! Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable. We will definitely be back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The grounds are beautiful, but that’s about where the positives end. If you happen to be there when the owner is in town, the whole place shifts into spectacle mode. He arrives by helicopter, landing on the very visible helipad out front — prime Seawall real estate — making sure every tourist, jogger, and driver sees it. It’s loud, disruptive, and throws the staff into a frenzy, and the whole resort feels like it’s performing for one person instead of serving its guests.
Inside the room, the raised bowl sink had a perpetual ring of gunk around the back that looked like a science experiment no one wanted to claim. Beds were comfortable enough, and no one woke up with back pain, but the cream/earth‑tone palette felt less like a design choice and more like the cheapest option someone could bulk‑order.
Pretty property, but the experience doesn’t justify the reputation.
Unfortunately when we checked in we did not get any information regarding WiFi, services on property, restaurant hours, or a general amenities review…all things that are standard procedure for first time guests at a resort. Instead we got a room with hair on the floor, black stains on the robe, and no menu for room service. When I tried to ask front desk staff about it after setting our bags down, I was told that information is only provided when it’s not busy. Mind you, when we checked in there was only 1 person behind us. After paying extra to stay in the VIP floor, I expected at least come kindness or courteous to be extended. But instead felt unwelcomed by the hotel check in staff. Ocean view was great, but quality of service by the staff was terrible. Not worth the cost. And food was bland. The restaurant staff and pool staff were amazing though.

Honestly everything was 5 stars I really loved the experienced their went their with family and friends (6 total) and the last 2 or 3 days were a blast from my personal experience best hotel I went to by far and the beach made it more amazing but the trip was quite far from where I'm from (Fort Worth the Galveston is 5 hours)
Unfortunately I did get car sick along the way but didn't ruin my experience.
Rooms- we were originally were gonna book side by side but one room of the rooms was unavailable so only one of us got a free upgrade so in the end we were spilt into floors 4 & 12 then later half of just 1 person wanted ocean view and don't get my wrong getting a ocean view pretty expensive but we did get it for a reasonable price don't know much but we got it at the 9th floor amazing room and didn't actually know the couch could be turned into a 2nd bed along with the king sized bed, also room comes with a cooler/freezer or more.
Service- overall experience was well and amazing since staff were at the ready to help and to the part when were the pool and I would glad to say service there was honestly pretty awesome since we can get free towels but keep in mind Pool services are only available if your staying or a "Guest" then to the steak house I never knew was in the hotel, and well I'm glad to say the same thing about it. It was amazing! I really enjoyed all the food their defiantly get the salad but I just like salad on my palette overall but also steak was perfect rare/medium rare and they also refill your glass w/o you asking them which most restaurants do that. Menu on/in the steak house a nice variety of choices but also had a bar with other people like to try some beverages.
Location - I may had some issues along the way but thank god we brought motion sickness medication 1 day after staying in the hotel but in my opinion one of the best hotels along side the beautiful beach.
Overall- 5 stars from what I'm experiencing quite disappointed that others that reviewed didn't quite get of what they hoped for the experience that they expecting or booked in advanced and were looking up towards with their family's and honestly happy with ending price that we gout a group of 6(upgraded for free but then moved to a ocean room floor PLEASE choose 9 perfect ocean view) but in the end everything turned out to $257! But we were about to pay over $300+ but soon negotiated with staff about it (side note we moved to floor 9 since one person from our group wanted ocean view)
Bonus!!- also if your staying hears a fun thing to know with the bracelets, once you get them since your staying you need atleast ONE person with the pink wrist band in order to enter the pool doesn't matter how big the group is atleast ONE person needs to have it to enter in and out. Downside is once you clip on the bracelet to your wrist you can no longer take it off so make sure were it loose enough to take off when sleeping or showering if not then go the the lobby and ask for assistance as the front desk. Last thing about the pink bracelets is once you check/book out they no longer work to your room nor the pool also forgot to mention your braclet opens to your designed room number NOT others.
Happy with the results of what I seen might as well come back next time :)
