Follow up edit: After 3 weeks, turn outs every staff I spoke to lied about how the credit worked. Called to complain, was told it didn't work the way I was told but they'd honor it and give me my money.
We were gifted a stay at this location for a week (6/20-6/27), and it was a miserable experience the entire time. Galveston was great, but being at this resort was the problem.
To start out, we were in town the night before and stayed with some friends so the following day I called at 1pm about my 4pm check in to see if the room was ready early as this happens frequently enough to take a chance in hotels. It wasn't, so we hit up the town and relaxed till about 3:30 when we noticed the storm was starting to come in. Hoping to get our luggage inside prior to the storm, we went and the room still wasn't ready, and in fact wasn't ready till about 4:20. We were told that everything was running behind due to the storm, but since we were in town the night before we were aware we didnt even have rain until around 4:05 so how they're behind due to a storm that hadn't hit yet is beyond me.
Continuing on, the check in process is actually like 15-20 minutes courtesy of them asking you questions and trying to sell you additional things/requesting time. I'm no stranger to this so I expected as much, but unfortunately no does not mean no to this property as I had to decline several times. I told them we had to meet some friends at a specific time and we're already late, and that didn't matter to them. They even mentioned how if we wanted more information on other good locations like this one, which I cut off to explain how miserable this location had been already.
Now that we're checked in and the supervisors have done their inspection to make sure the room is in good condition, we get into the room and discover the shower handle just leaks consistently when the water was on. Knowing we have a forced security deposit, I called to get it on the record that this was in fact not us and they can come look/fix it. Turns out it was a major fix and would require us to wait and get a new room for them to repair, to which we stayed as the shower at least works and they guaranteed me it wouldn't be on us for the deposit.
During the trip, I felt like we were constantly getting the run around. They have free laundry machines on site, and mentioned there's laundry packets in our room (spoiler they were not) so we had to ask for that, and then when it came to other generic care we were told we'd have to call housekeeping to accomplish these things. Seems fair, but turns out you cant call housekeeping you ask them and they call and put in a ticket that is handled when it can be. I'm not sure why so many people told me I needed to call for housekeeping, when the people I'd need to call to get my question resolved are the people I was already talking to. Really seems like they should just do the ticket right then but oh well. Not only that, they dont do trash so if you got trash that needs to be taken out its on you to go find the bin and do it yourself. Then, I'm not sure how normal this is these days since we haven't traveled in a few years but housekeeping showed up and just gave us a bag of our sheets to replace it ourselves.
On top of that, the only barrier between us and the people in the next room is 2 doors. As long as one is locked you can't access the other side, but noise comes through relatively easily in this situation. We got to hear a ton of random singing, people vomiting, and more just cause of how close they were.
For the location of the resort, there's a ton of standing water and grasslands so the mosquitos were out of control. Taking elevators were traps with dozens of mosquitos having a buffet while waiting both outside and inside the elevator. There's just dried blood in the elevators with the mosquitos that were killed. You'd want to avoid the pools during specific hours as well due to mosquito activity. Something really should be done about it as it was a massive problem the entire trip.
