Origin Austin, a Wyndham Hotel, pairs urban-chic guest rooms and luxury hotel amenities with state-of-the-art fitness, fun and fresh flavors from Blue Lacy as a lively newcomer in the capital city's vibrant Mueller neighborhood.
the origin hotel austi is located at downtown mueller. the mueller neighborhood is a charming, walkable, peaceful, new urbanist development on the site of the the historic mueller airport. mueller is the loveliest neighborhood in austin. the hotel’s location is perfect.
downtown mueller has an incredible park and plenty of restaurants. bd reilly’s is an award winning pub. dogs society is a fast casual chain form houston that punches above its weight class. merit coffee is a south central texas coffee chain with a location a block away. they’re coffee is great. thoroughbread is an upscale corner store and deli that has good sandwiches. the thinkery is next door for the kids.
if you drive here, you’ll have to street park or use the garage across the street. ive street parked in mueller countless times without filling the meter and without getting a ticket. so do with that what you will.
the interior design of the hotel is cutesy millennial core; i like it. the furniture in the room classy and well taken care of. the hotel is still fairly new. the bed and linens are comfy. the ac can make the toom blissfully cold and the the blinds can make the room fairly dark. there’s a guitar in the lobby that i strummed on from the courtyard; a delightful amenity.
there’s filtered water and ice in the hallways. i died at the hotel restaurant and i was not impressed. my steak was overcooked at first and my potatoes were soggy. menu prices were fair. they gave me a 15% off coupon at check in which helped.
i paid $250 for two nights booked on the day of the first night. a good price i think for the hotel and location. my room faced the courtyard, which isn’t a great view, but is quiet and gets plenty of light (not that mueller is ever loud).
the facility and location are fantastic. a great hotel for your austin stay in a more interesting location than the usual downtown/i35 marriott and hyatt slop.

Great location! The only drawback is that it’s a pet friendly hotel, and the lobby can get overwhelmed with dogs especially on a hot summer day, which creates a slightly unpleasant odor. Also, keep in mind that it is self-parking only. Other than that, it’s a solid three- to four-star hotel.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this was one of the most uncomfortable hotel stays my family has had.
* I booked and paid for the Kids Adventure Kit with my reservation, but upon arrival it had been removed and I had to have it re-added.
* I was overcharged by approximately $900 at check-in.
* The 5th floor smelled strongly like urine when we arrived.
* The room was extremely small for a family stay.
* The room appeared poorly painted and unfinished.
* Another guest’s gift shop purchase was charged to our room.
* The hotel gave us complimentary breakfast tickets for the inconveniences, but when we tried to use them, we were questioned as if we shouldn’t have had them.
* While walking with our children, pilots staying at the hotel questioned us about what floor we were on because they didn’t want to stay near kids, even though our children were quiet and respectful.
* The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable.
On top of all this, we encountered multiple billing issues and had difficulty getting clear answers from management regarding our concerns as they are always unavailable and the front desk nor Wyndham customer service could ever answer any questions without them. This experience caused unnecessary stress and was far from the relaxing family stay we expected. I want to mention the overcharges weren’t small. Overall, origin hotel sent my credit card into the negative. I currently have thousands of dollars of authorizations pending from this hotel on my cc I’m waiting to have corrected over a $1263.48 stay I booked online directly via the hotels website. It included the adventure tent kit, room rate, prepaid parking, and taxes in my confirmation email for $1263.48. I would never stay here again. I’m currently waiting for a call from the GM that hasn’t happened since we checked in on June 11th as promised. We had to borrow money for food and activities during the stay and couldn’t book somewhere else because of all of the authorizations they input for the one stay putting me into the negative. Authorizations take 7-10 business days to release. I remained calm and polite even when I was given the run around, but I would never recommend anyone book this hotel. The housekeeping manager and housekeeping team are awesome and were the only noteworthy part of this stay. They were a 10 out of 10.
