We spent the afternoon here for a spa treatment. The hotel is run down, needs a complete renovation and they put us in a room for our massage that looked like an event space. Everything is dated and it’s such a shame because it’s on Lake Austin. Could be the best hotel in the city but very very underwhelming.

My wife and I have visited Lake Austin Spa Resort about a half-dozen times over the past 15 years, and we have never been disappointed. It is expensive, but the facilities, food, and service are exemplary, and the setting on Lake Austin is beautiful and peaceful. We park and do not leave the premises during our stays. We particularly enjoy the exercise and spa facilities, as well as the leisurely pace of life at the resort. Highly recommend.

We had a great time, but we won't be back. The good: staff is AMAZING (super friendly, professional, and helpful), food was incredibly delicious, rooms were outstanding (most comfy beds we ever slept in, clean, deep tubs, perfect water pressure in shower, all the channels we wanted, spacious), lovely guests (all kinds of people were there whether solo or couples or groups and everyone was fast friends), picturesque scenary EVERYWHERE, great massage and facials in the spa, and 3 pools (2 outdoor and 1 indoor). The bad: you'll probably get lost getting there since they're signage isn't great (apparently this happens all the time), parking isn't the best, sometimes no one was at the front desk, if you leave the property you can't re-enter unless you ring the call box which isn't a problem unless no one answers the phone which happened to us, flies everywhere while we ate (they had zevo but it didn't help), rigid eating times (there are designated timeframe for breakfast and lunch and then you have to reserve a time for dinner; given the money we paid we would've liked to eat whenever we wanted), pricing isn't transparent/straightforward, and the menu is exactly the same everyday (though they do offer specials for dinner each night). It's great for a first visit, but we won't be repeat guests.

I enjoyed my experience. I've been to other resort/spas and Lake Austin is very different. It's laid back and understated. The bungalows are quaint with lots of southern charm. From the fitness instructors to the waitstaff, they were friendly and helpful. Plus, they get bonus points because they're dog friendly. Must Do: myofascial water aqua release at the spa - Monica is beyond amazing!

Avoid this place. Terrible service - while checking out yesterday, the man at the front desk wearing a bun was completely useless and rude; kept interrupting me, didn’t know how to look up my final invoice, nor could they explain the charges I have on my account from Lake Austin Spa. I noticed when another white woman approached, he was much nicer to her so it’s likely racial profiling. When I asked what a charge was on my incomplete invoice, they said “don’t worry about that.” Someone from billing named Dennis was supposed to reach out today to discuss charges and provide me with a final folio and I have yet to hear back. I’m having my credit card refund me because service is so terrible and they won’t respond to emails following up on my invoice, yet I continue to have new charges to my credit card. Staff needs training because most of the people at the front seemed very uninformed. Rooms were dirty, getting towels refreshed required walking down to the front desk because they don’t answer the phone and it still took another 45 minutes of waiting. Food was also subpar. I’ve been to wellness retreats around the world, worked in the travel/food magazine industry, and I can confidently say this place should be a pass which I will also inform my colleagues. I also got a hydrafacial and Becky damaged my skin, leaving bruises. I get monthly hydrafacial at a med spa and have never had this issue before. If you’re a luxury traveler and choosing between Miraval Austin and here, Miraval is a better experience as long as they don’t have a corporate retreat happening on property — more expansive, better views, activities and service. This property is for an old crowd who don’t mind returning to a run-down property because it feels like their tradition.
