  Our stay at the Holiday Inn Express this past weekend in Athens, Texas was less than stellar. Upon arrival at the property Saturday evening, the trash cans outside of the property were all overflowing with garbage. After we checked in and went to our rooms, there were dead and half-dead cockroaches in the hallway and the stairwell (the button to the elevator was not operating correctly). We had two rooms. One smelled very moldy and the AC unit for the room was extremely loud. The bathroom in the second room was not cleaned properly after the previous guests had checked out. The toilet was dirty. I will not be staying at this hotel again and I will not recommend that folks stay at this hotel in Athens, TX in the future.

  If I could give this place anything less than one star I would extremely raciest lady at the front desk as soon as she saw me want three the door she said no rooms after I checked online and they had more than 11 rooms available refused to serve me and when I asked her if there were any other hotels in the area as I’m not from her she looked at me as if I was talking Chinese and said of course when then lead to the question of where would recommend you stay away from this place at all cost

  I’m not speaking about the quality of the rooms just there price gouging when looking up online they are one price when canton was having there flea market weekend there price jumped doubled ridiculous any way the point is a five star hotel in Jacksonville called the secret Cenote was cheaper than holiday inn and I was able to get a suite room 2 bedroom with 2 bath and kitchen amazing place and they don’t take advantage of people

  Says newly remodeled but all the ice machines were broken, had to get ice from front desk person and in our room the AC was broken so they had a portable AC in there that sounded like a jet plane all night... got barely any sleep! The continental breakfast was nice. I will look for somewhere else to stay if ever back in the area.

  Nice employees and tidy rooms and property. Fridge and microwave both worked great. Had a kurig but I didn't use it. They offer a nice breakfast with the normal options. Tiny indoor pool I didn't use but saw once front outside....all ice machines were broken which stunk but the front desk kept a bag in a cooler for any guest who wanted to ask for some in their bucket. All in all not a bad stay but the entrance/ exit of the drive is a hairy one. It has a huge incline where it meets the road and is on a somewhat blind corner of a 4 lane 45 mph road so use caution.
