Evins Mill in Smithville, Tennessee is an absolute hidden gem for couples wanting a beautiful and peaceful place for their elopement photos. I recently brought one of my elopement couples to the waterfall at Evins Mill for portraits, and I honestly couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful setting.
The waterfall, lush greenery, and natural surroundings created such an incredible backdrop for their Tennessee elopement photography. Even better, we had the entire area to ourselves, which made the experience feel incredibly peaceful and intimate. There was something so special about being able to slow down, take in the beauty, and simply enjoy the moment without a crowd around us.
As a Tennessee elopement photographer, I’m always looking for locations that give my couples more than just beautiful photos—they should feel like an experience, too. Evins Mill truly delivered both. The waterfall was breathtaking, the surroundings were serene, and it gave us so many opportunities for natural, romantic, editorial-style images.
If you’re planning an elopement in Tennessee and looking for a unique location with beautiful scenery and a more private, peaceful atmosphere, I highly recommend considering Evins Mill in Smithville. It was absolutely worth the visit, and I would love to photograph another Tennessee elopement there!

My husband surprised me an anniversary trip and we stayed one night. It was truly magical. I was immediately impressed. It was absolutely breathtaking. I was begging not to leave on check out day. The atmosphere is still and tranquil... great place to revive and soul search. The staff was top notch and so warm and inviting. The food was out of this world. The service was absolutely impeccable, they do everything for you. This is the perfect opportunity to disconnect from corporate life and decision making. They literally spoil you. The rustic, natural vibe of the place was so warm and cozy. It was absolutely perfect night away. We could stay 2 nights but on the way home we plan our next trip, but staying 2 nights next time

Overall the people make this place!
Everything about the rooms was comfortable and well done. The replacement of linens was always as we needed and the room kept clean.
The people are the difference. Not knowing what to expect, the breakfast staff was always friendly and accommodating. The night time staff made you feel like a welcome member of the family each night we returned.
The location was exactly what we hoped to find. A break from the hustle of the world and a place to rest and recover.

This place was a beautiful, fun surprise that was recommended to us via AI. I have to say we enjoyed it very much. A very pleasant little spot. Not far outside of Nashville, but it feels like it's much further away. Very quaint, very quiet, interesting hiking and activities. The food was fabulous also. Very much a surprise. A pleasant one. We will be back.

We went to Evins Mill on a day trip pass hoping to swim at the waterfall. Although the waterfall was beautiful, the water was not clean enough to swim in. It smelled bad and looked very murky. Maybe only because it hadn't rained much in the days leading up to our visit?
The hike was more difficult than we expected, probably at least at 6.5/10 difficulty (although I will admit I am not in the best physical shape), the trail was well maintained, there are several areas with ropes to assist in harder/steep spots. The rocks at the base of the waterfall are very slick, as to be expected.
The staff was amazing and very accommodating. The included lunch was so-so but convenient, a turkey sandwich that was more bread than meat, a bag of cheddar popcorn, a rice crispy treat, a cutie orange, potato salad, and bottled water.
Overall, the experience was not worth our 2 hour drive plus $70 and we would not visit again.
Evins Mill is open Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed Monday through Friday.
