Very disappointing experience. The hotel assigned me an accessible room without informing me in advance. I asked to be moved to another room or, at the very least, to have the removable shower seat taken out. Both requests were refused, with staff claiming that the hotel was fully booked.
However, it is Tuesday evening and several rooms still appear to be available for booking. This seems less like a genuine availability issue and more like an unwillingness to provide a simple solution.
What disappointed me most was the lack of consideration, flexibility, and customer service. This is not the level of service I would expect from a hotel.

Hotel was clean and breakfast was very good. What made this place stand out was the service. DK was extremely attentive and helped us in our room when the AC was not working properly. He did not make us wait in a hot room and took care of it extremely quickly and went above and beyond what would have been reasonably expected. Huge kudos to him.

I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, especially because I understand that unexpected maintenance issues can happen at any hotel. My concern isn't that an electrical problem occurred. My concern is how it was handled.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., our room suddenly filled with an overwhelming smell of burning plastic and electrical wiring. This wasn't a faint odor. The smell completely filled our room and even spread into the hallway after I propped the door open. The USB charger plugged into the wall had become so hot that it had begun melting the surrounding plastic, and I could actually feel heat radiating up the wall.
My husband and I were traveling with our three young children, all of whom had been asleep.
When I reported the situation to the front desk, I was frightened and looking for guidance. Instead of treating it like a potential electrical emergency, I was initially offered a fan and told to run the air conditioner to air out the fumes. That response was incredibly alarming to me. My concern wasn't simply the smell. My concern was whether my family was safe to remain in that room.
I completely understand that the hotel was sold out, and I recognize that made the situation more difficult. However, I repeatedly explained that there were small children in the room, that I could physically feel heat traveling up the wall, and that I was concerned not only for my own family but for every other guest staying in the hotel. Despite that, there was no overnight maintenance available and, to my knowledge, no fire department or emergency personnel were called to evaluate what appeared to be a potential electrical hazard.
It wasn't until I personally contacted Holiday Inn Guest Services that the situation finally began to move with the urgency I felt it deserved. Once Guest Services became involved, the front desk staff became much more proactive. Tanya was genuinely compassionate, kind, and incredibly helpful once the seriousness of the situation was recognized, and I truly appreciate everything she did to assist my family.
Because the hotel was fully booked, they arranged for us to be relocated to the Courtyard by Marriott across the street in the middle of the night. While moving three sleeping children at that hour was incredibly stressful, I sincerely appreciate that they ultimately found us a safe place to stay. The hotel also issued a full refund for our stay, which I believe was the appropriate resolution financially.
What continues to concern me is how much effort it took to get to that point. I can't help but wonder what would have happened had I simply accepted the initial suggestion to use a fan and return to the room. No guest should have to question whether it is safe to sleep in a room after reporting what appears to be an active electrical hazard.
Management later confirmed that the room was immediately removed from service and remained unavailable until it had been inspected and repaired the following day. That confirmed for me that my concerns about remaining in that room overnight were legitimate. This was not simply an unpleasant odor. It was serious enough that the room itself was deemed unfit for occupancy until repairs had been completed.
I genuinely appreciate the apology, the relocation, and the full refund. However, those actions don't change the fact that the initial emergency response fell far short of what I would expect when a family with three young children reports what appears to be a potentially dangerous electrical issue in the middle of the night.
I sincerely hope this experience leads to improvements in the hotel's overnight emergency procedures so that future guests receive a faster, more decisive response if they ever find themselves in a similar situation. Unfortunately, because of how this was handled, I don't feel comfortable staying at this property again.

If you don't make it through this entire review, the TLDR is that maintenance doesn't happen at this hotel and everything is either damaged, unsafe, frustrating, or dysfunctional.
We've stayed at Holiday Inns before and had fantastic experience and never a complaint. However this is by far the worst location we've stay at out of any hotel we've booked and feel that leaving a review of our experience is worth our time.
We are giving location only a positive since we traveled for Sesame Place. Though as I write this, the location is good, the value is not. You would likely be better off staying at another location closer that is walkable since parking at Sesame is $44. You may make up that savings in a different hotel.
- Wall outlets were loose to both anything plugged into it them and loose physically from the wall itself. That is a fire hazard.
- Shower curtain was so short that it didn't stay on the tub, thus it flooded the bathroom with every use. We had to continually ask for towels to mop up the floor. (see photo)
- Shower water pressure was so intensely high that showering was extremely painful for us as adults, let alone our young children.
- Shower was completely standing water when used first. Upon looking at it, it was entirely clogged with hair. I pulled up several large clumps of hair and threw it in the trash until it was no longer standing water. Still didn't drain great, but enough to be used.
- Bathroom floor tiles were cracked and could be felt shifting under your feet.
- Main area into the room (between sink and bathroom) the floor was peeling up, bubbled, moved as you walked over it
- Windows curtain is broken and half missing entirely. The blackout curtain is torn and off it's track. The shade is entirely missing altogether.
- Elevator is far slower than you may expect it to be. By design or age, uncertain. It shouldn't be a factor for a review however with everything else it's just another annoyance.
- Breakfast when things ran empty, they were not restocked such as milk. Part of juice machine was broken.
- Parking. There was a delivery that occurred one of the morning. The semi making the delivery blocked a handful of vehicles in. Thankfully ours was able to get out, but since there is likely no good delivery location, if you were unfortunate in the timing and needed to leave, you'd be delayed until the delivery completed.
- The fire alarms went off for about 20-30 seconds around 8pm at night and we were told it was just a false alarm. I understand these things happen but we question what could trip the alarm for such a short amount of time and be so readily communicated that it was accidental.

5 stars for being around the corner to Sesame Place which is our destination.
When we got here we asked about a veteran rate. We were told they can only offer so many a night, they must have none available, & "don't even personally know the codes". They didn't even check the system BTW.
We got a non-smoking room but the smell of cigarettes is overwhelming to a point you can taste it.
The tile has visible stains from not being cleaned between guests. The carpet is sticky/wet. Everything is falling apart, torn, etc.
Do you like sleep? Good luck sleeping on the awful mattress & do not roll over or you will wake your neighbors the bed is so loud. IF you fall sleep, don't mind the train that you can indeed hear.
We needed to keep milk for our youngest & the fridge doesn't get cold enough. We asked, the handy man said the top is cold so it's clearly working. I asked why the walls of the fridge were warm & he threw up his hands & walked out.
I feel like I need a shower from being here & honestly another shower from using the shower.
If there's another option, any other option, take the other option for your travels.
