To be clear, I did not stay at this hotel. My total time on site was approximately 30 minutes—the time required to check in, view the room, and check out.
I was in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on a short business trip and, as an IHG Diamond Elite member, made a quick reservation through the IHG app, which directed me to the Candlewood Suites and it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. The place is dirty, falling apart, and falls far below any reasonable standard of cleanliness or basic maintenance. Anyone who values a clean room or a functional property should look elsewhere.
The rooms and common areas showed clear neglect. Surfaces were dirty, fixtures were worn and broken, and the overall condition felt run-down and poorly maintained. It gave the strong impression that basic upkeep and cleaning standards are simply not a priority here. For a brand that markets itself as extended-stay, the level of filth and disrepair was unacceptable.
Staff service made the stay even worse. The front desk employee named Dylan was particularly rude and unprofessional. He made decisions on behalf of guests without asking or checking first, which felt dismissive and controlling. Instead of listening or solving problems, the interaction left a lasting negative impression. There was little sense of basic courtesy or customer service.
Overall, this Candlewood Suites left me disgusted with the condition of the property and the way guests were treated. I would not recommend it to anyone who expects a clean, functional hotel or respectful service. Save yourself the frustration and book somewhere else in the Harrisburg area.

My friends and I stayed here last weekend after going to Hershey Park. It was about 17 minutes away which wasn't too bad of a drive.
The room we stayed in smelled like absolute cat / dog pee. We noticed that they allow pets to stay for an extra fee, but even if we didn't know that, it was OBVIOUS. The second my friend and I walked in the room the smell assaulted our noses. I called the front desk and asked if there was anything they could do. Upon arriving, we watched a woman get turned away because they were sold out for the night, so we knew we had no chance of switching rooms. The front desk attendant brought us febreez, agreed that the room did stink, and sprayed the carpet which helped for a half hour. Luckily the window opened a crack, so we kept the window open all night. The next day upon check out, I brought up the problem again and let them know it's blatantly disrespectful to rent out that room to guests knowing it smells like animal pee, and also that they need to rip out that carpet because it was THAT terrible. They did not offer a refund, partial refund or basically anything except for febreez. So that lead me here to write a review- to warn other people that you very well may be given a room that smells like pee, and you will not get a refund. And your bags and clothes will smell like the room too! Imagine traveling for work?
I will not be returning to any location a "Candlewood Suites" owns. I will leave my last statement as: If you're going to allow pets in your hotel, why would you put carpet in the rooms?

Tried staying here on 7/10-7/11, when i arrived i was told there were no rooms available even though i had a reservation books. They did not bother walking me to another hotel nor did they offer any compensation. They had a “not our problem” attitude.
I really wanted to give this place a nice review, but it has a lot of things working against it.
The Pros: My experiences with the staff were polite, the Wi-Fi had no issues, I legitimately liked the shower head in my room, and the AC held up to a heatwave in PA that saw highs in the high 90's.
The Cons: Almost everything else. A lot of my issues with the site seem to be that there was a great infrastructure for this hotel that has now aged and not been kept up with.
- There was paint peeling throughout the building. There were also several walls spackled but not painted over afterwards.
- We were given several bath towels with questionable stains on them. The front desk did not have any other towels to exchange them with.
- The toilet handle was broken, and you needed excessive force to flush the toilet.
- Every time I used the elevator it groaned and I was worried that it might have an issue.
- The automatic doors headed out the main entrance were broken and would not fully shut.
Also, its not directly the hotel's fault, but there is a jail a quarter mile from hotel.
There were a few others hotels in the same plaza, and if I needed to stay in the area again, I would check out one of them first.

I arrived at the hotel around 11 am, my room was not ready, the staff allowed me to keep our luggage behind the desk. He told us 52 rooms just checked out and room service was cleaning them.
When I returned that evening a different staff member was on duty and was not near as friendly as the first one I encountered, or what I am used to at IHG hotels. He did not offer me my Diamond Elite welcome options, just chose the points for me, did not thank us for staying or choosing your hotel.
When arriving at my room I found it was the exact opposite of my saved IHG preferences, and was across from the elevator. I went back down to the front desk where the staff member was not willing to assist me or help find a solution. I asked if we could move rooms tomorrow, he said he had 2 bed rooms checking out tomorrow but could not guarantee me one, I would need to talk to the person on duty tomorrow. I do not understand why he could not assist and make this work. I asked to speak to the manager, who he said was unavailable, and so is the owner.
When setting the room up we found no sheets for the fold out couch, we returned to the front desk and was given a set of king sheets, which is entirely too big for the fold out, but they were out of pillows.
The fan between the living room and bedroom, for air circulation, had wires connected by wire nuts and unplugged. Therefore, we had no air circulation into the bedroom.
The next day I asked for three sets of towels and washcloths to be told they only had two.
Another time I found the downstairs restroom to be without toilet paper.
Our last morning I asked for a late check out, to be met with an attitude from the staff member working the front desk.
I am very dissatisfied with my stay at this hotel and will not recommend it to anyone.
