One of the worst hospitality experiences I’ve ever had.
We stayed at Brasada Ranch for four nights for our best friends’ wedding. The wedding itself was wonderful, but unfortunately, the resort did everything possible to make the rest of our stay frustrating.
From the moment we checked in, the staff were disorganized and unnecessarily rude. I reserved two golf carts and was told I was wrong and had only reserved one. When I asked to reserve another, the front desk employee became snippy and proceeded to tell me how “swamped” they were because of our wedding party and a 180-person corporate retreat they had booked at the same time. I’ve worked in hospitality for years, and I’ve never seen a professional make their staffing problems the guest’s problem quite like this.
The next day, I went to get additional keys for our family members and was told our cabin wasn’t ready, even though we had already checked in the day before. When I clarified what I needed, the response was, “Why didn’t you just say that?” Absolutely unbelievable customer service.
Night two: the entire resort lost power. I understand that power outages happen and may be out of a resort’s control. What isn’t out of their control is communication. We received virtually no updates or information. Our friends’ fire alarm also started going off because of the outage and wasn’t addressed until 4 AM.
Night three: Brasada decided that hosting a race with a DJ at 3 AM was a good idea. The music was loud enough to wake up the entire resort. The night before a wedding. At a resort where people are paying a premium to stay.
And then came checkout.
I was charged $721 for golf carts when my calculations came to $518. When I questioned the nearly $200 difference, I was told management had increased the service fee after we booked a year ago and we were expected to pay the difference, even though the service fees had already been paid when we booked.
And the “gourmet kitchen” in our cabin? It had a rust-filled water kettle and only had a table and enough utensils for four people in a cabin advertised for six. Apparently, two of the six guests were expected to eat standing up and share forks.
For a resort charging what Brasada charges, the level of organization, communication, and customer service was shockingly poor.
I would not stay here again, and I absolutely would not recommend it.
