We had a wonderful stay at this hotel, and the staff truly made the experience special. Jada at the front desk was welcoming, warm, and efficient\. She immediately made us feel comfortable and set the tone for the excellent service we enjoyed throughout our stay.
Grace was also a delight—friendly, personable, and full of personality. Stephanie, who waited on us, was equally friendly and attentive. We genuinely felt as though we got to know all three of them during our stay, which made the hotel feel especially welcoming and personal.
The location is excellent, with wonderful restaurants, shopping, and sightseeing all within easy walking distance. It was incredibly convenient to step outside and have everything right nearby.
Our only suggestion concerns the size of the rooms, which are a bit small. Adding even one piece of furniture with drawers or shelving where guests could unpack their clothes would make a significant difference.
All in all, we would definitely recommend this hotel, especially because of its exceptional staff and fantastic location. Jada, Grace, and Stephanie made our stay truly memorable!
We wanted to stay at Lightwell because it’s a new hotel and looked like a fun place to stay. Stayed 3 nights and we both called the room minimalist. We had to bring hanging bathroom toiletry bags as there is no place to pour them; we brought a kettle and Starbucks Instant coffee & mugs as we didn’t want to deal with lobby coffee; they brought us the beer refrigerator (handy); had to get extra glasses for our room besides using the plastic small ones they provide in the bathroom; lobby is freezing and even the staff commented; roof top deck was nice to use before the bar opened at 3:00 to relax and have wine from the room or ice tea; quiet rooms; comfortable bed (our room was 256 sft so only room for a king bed and stool so we had to switch from sitting on the bed to stool to sit or leave the room to relax somewhere else). The grab and go selection for breakfast is terrible. Lousy pastries, no yogurt or fruit. I had to zoom into the pic to see their refrigerator option so we brought our own yogurt, milk and juice and ice chest. That’s a lot to do in order to enjoy your stay at a new hotel in Hood River and spending $1,400+ for 3 nights. And the shower leaked and water was coming up from the floor boards.
Lightwell is using AI to respond to guest complaints? I was part of a disappointed group that recently stayed where I left the group to stay at another hotel. My room lacking hotel basics was unexpected. Nowhere to open a suitcase except the bed. Pet hair in the sheets from a previous guest. Gross. No full mirror or basic drink station with mini-fridge to keep my medicine refrigerated. I couldn't even adjust the thermostat. What country are we in?
Prior to arriving, I had read the other guest complaints yet still remained hopeful. As the owner of an international travel magazine, I was even half-hoping the place might be feature-worthy. I can tolerate a tiny room. What I can’t is a hotel that treats basic amenities as optional extras while charging a rate as if included. Part of the staff also appear to have skipped hospitality training, especially the GM whose rude words could be heard across the hotel's foyer area.
Suspicious, I pasted the hotel’s replies to guest complaints into an AI. The AI recognized its own work which explains why the replies don't offer a genuine apology with compensation to the guest to right things.
What I may pen in our publication is when desiring a hotel experience to uplift a once in a lifetime memory of a special occasion, avoid experiencing the disappointment at Lightwell Hotel which divided our group physically, part of a family re-union, from truly experiencing a beautiful stay together.

Gorgeous hotel with a beautiful lobby and an incredible rooftop deck. It was also lovely to have a well-stocked little shop and coffee bar on-site, along with restaurant food available.
Grace was our bartender both nights, and she was an absolute delight! She made incredible drinks and even created something from scratch for my sweet bestie. She truly made our experience extra special.
Unfortunately, there were a few issues that took away from the stay. The rooms are much smaller than expected, and the split A/C unit in our first room was leaking and running down the wall. We had to change rooms around 10 p.m. While the second room was slightly larger, it was right by the elevator and rooftop deck, and we were unable to sleep because of the laughter and noise past 10pm.
The next morning, we also learned that the soaking pool was scheduled to be closed for most of the day for monthly maintenance. The front desk staff apologized for not mentioning this at check-in, especially since the closure had been planned in advance. Unfortunately, the soaking pool was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel, and we only had one full day at the hotel, so that was particularly disappointing.
They did offer us a late checkout, which we appreciated, although it took 3–4 back-and-forth exchanges to get it arranged.
Overall, this is a beautiful hotel with great spaces to relax and enjoy, and Grace was an absolute joy to get to know. With a little more attention to room placement, maintenance, and communication about scheduled amenities, it could be a truly exceptional stay. We do hope to try it again.
Better off staying at the Best Western (our guests who stayed there said it was excellent). The rooms at Lightwell are TINY and lacking crucial features. Strongly consider alternative options, especially if for an important event like your wedding.
Full review:
We booked one of the their largest suites for our wedding weekend, and many of our guests stayed at the hotel as well. While sleek and contemporary, we found the rooms were lacking some key features for a high end hotel at this price point:
1. No hanging space. My fiancée had nowhere to hang her wedding dress without it piling up on the floor as the limited wall hooks available are mounted comically low. Similarly, I had to hang my suit in the bathroom because it was the only hook from which my suit (folded in half on hangers, mind you) would not bunch up on the ground.
2. No full length mirror. We had to buy one from Walmart and have it delivered to the front desk. Even budget motels have full length mirrors. For a town so heavily embedded in the wedding industry, this is absurd. People use these rooms to get ready for important events. Each room should have a full length mirror.
3. Lack of counter/storage space throughout, but especially in the bathroom. We had to store our toiletries on the floor. A suite should have two sinks and ample counter space. This is simply unacceptable.
4. Room size. The suite was the size of a normal hotel room. The other standard rooms our guests reserved were literally closets. This is understandable given the location and building size, but the rooms are overpriced for such a small size.
5. No refrigerator in the suite. Sure they provide a tiny beer fridge on request, but a suite should include a mini fridge or bigger.
6. The rooftop bar. Our guests arrived ready to spend their money on drinks at the bar but were told they could only be served at a table?? This is a bizarre policy and resulted in awkward socializing. Bar service at a rooftop bar should be available.
7. Our friend who couldn’t make the wedding purchased wine, champagne and chocolate to be placed in our room as a surprise. There was no mention of the gift being from her, and the champagne was missing. Only by texting her did we find this out.
