I rarely leave negative reviews, but based on our family's experience, I cannot recommend this Holiday Inn Express, particularly for family events or travelers with elderly or mobility-impaired relatives.
We were here for a family wedding. We arrived late Friday night to find 2 of our 3 assigned rooms had not been cleaned—unmade beds, dirty towels, and food left from previous guests. The Friday night clerk was kind, apologetic, and did everything she could to help. However, my first replacement room was also dirty, meaning I had to be assigned THREE different rooms before receiving a clean one. Although my cups were unwrapped and my tv also didn’t want to work as a previous review also mentioned. My brother's family also had to change rooms due to similar issues.
Before accepting my replacement room, I specifically asked the clerk to verify my rate. She told me it would be $99 plus tax for both nights. I was charged higher rates at checkout. The Sunday clerk was unhelpful and seemed annoyed and told me she couldn't fix it because they don’t currently have a manager. I then asked her to call the owners and she said she couldn’t because they’re never around and come and go as they please but directed me to call IHG Corporate, however, as I suspected IHG then told me it couldn't adjust the bill because it doesn't have access to the hotel's billing system. After lodging a complaint with IHG who advised they could only offer IHG points to which my reply was that isn’t helpful if you’ve had such a bad experience you may never stay at an IHG property again, management later adjusted only one night after being reported to corporate.
More concerning was what happened to elderly relatives staying an additional night. Their faucet stopped working causing issues for basic hygiene. They requested another room on the same floor because they are in their late 70s/early 80s and have mobility and accessibility limitations. My aunt knew several rooms from the wedding party checked out Sunday morning so asked if they could be moved to one of those open rooms on the same floor rather than moving all their belongings up to the third floor. My aunt was polite about it but the Sunday clerk again seemed annoyed and unwilling to accommodate them and asked them to leave then locked them out of their room and called the police stating that my aunt was aggressive and threatening just for questioning why there wouldn’t be an open room on the second floor after a bunch of people from the wedding party just checked out. They were gathering their belongings to peacefully leave the hotel after the clerk finally let them back into their room and the police showed up at their door told them to call corporate to lodge a complaint and then left. My aunt later discovered what appears to be duplicate credit-card charges and additional charges they will now have to dispute.
Our experience included multiple dirty rooms, repeated room changes, maintenance/A/C problems, billing disputes, accessibility concerns, and an unnecessary escalation involving elderly mobility and accessibility impaired guests.
I want to emphasize that the Friday night clerk was wonderful and genuinely tried to help. Unfortunately, our experience with the Sunday clerk and the property's handling of these problems was very different. My aunt was told they don’t care about their customers and then my aunt asked why do you work here to which the clerk just shrugged her shoulders.
One dirty room can be a mistake. Multiple unclean rooms, maintenance problems, disputed charges, and this many problems during one family stay indicate something more serious. This was supposed to be a happy wedding weekend, and far too much of it was spent dealing with hotel problems.
Travelers—especially those booking for weddings, groups, or elderly family members—should take our experience into consideration before booking this property.
