The hotel itself seemed decent enough, but the pricing and front desk experience were a huge letdown. Called ahead and was quoted around $300 for a two-night stay, only to walk in and get hit with a $400 price tag in person. Way too expensive for what it is, and getting completely different numbers over the phone versus at the counter is pretty misleading.

We always enjoyed staying at this hotel a couple times a year when traveling to and from Arizona. This is about a halfway point, and the hotel is very clean with nice beds and a clean shower. Unfortunately, I am not sure we will stay here again. Last week, while driving home, I thought I was calling the front desk of this hotel directly. Instead, I had called one of those 3rd party scams who pretend to be the hotel. The woman on the phone was very nice and quoted me a room rate of $154. This was on par with what we had paid the previous week while traveling through. She did not mention additional taxes and fees, but I know taxes are always added, and many hotels hold a card on file for amenities, so I knew my cost would be slightly higher. I booked the room at the agreed rate of $154 and gave my credit card. Within a few seconds of ending the call, I received a text stating that I would be billed a total of $240.87! Almost $100 more! There was a charge of $68 for "taxes and fees" and a service charge of $17.99. I immediately called back but was told the reservation was non-cancellable non refundable. We escalated the issue to Mar, who was a "manager" but was told it would take 5-7 days to resolve. By the time we got to the hotel, tired and road weary, we took the room anyway since otherwise they were all sold out and had some kind of sports event in town, so we figured other hotels in the area would also be sold out. As long as we had this room booked, albeit at a higher rate, we needed a place to shower and sleep. When we returned home, I disputed the charge with my credit card company asking that I be credited back for the difference between the room rate I was quoted (less reasonable taxes) and the exorbitant fees and service charges. I was not asking for a free room; just the difference. Today I heard back from the escalation, and they refused to credit me back for the extra fees. So why ding the hotel with a negative review? Because my case was sent to HIE to also review, and they are refusing to budge on the price. So we paid $240 to sleep for a few hours in Oklahoma when we had just spent 5 nights at a Hilton in Scottsdale for almost half that cost. I am disappointed that HIE Elk City did not protect a returning customer from a scam outfit. So lesson learned. Next time I book a hotel room, I will confirm first that I am speaking to the actual front desk on the hotel property before turning over my credit card. Buyer Beware for sure! I will scope out other hotels in neighboring cities before out next travel to AZ
