There are hotels… and then there are the people who make a hotel feel like home.
For us, that person was Shawnee.
From the second you walk through the doors of the SureStay by Best Western in Woodbury, you’re greeted with one of the warmest, most genuine smiles you’ll ever encounter. Shawnee isn’t just checking guests in. She’s setting the tone for your entire stay.
Her customer service is in a league of its own.
She goes above and beyond to make sure every guest feels welcomed, heard, and taken care of. No matter how many times we stopped by the front desk, she never once made us feel like we were inconveniencing her. Instead, she greeted us with kindness, laughter, and the type of positive energy that’s becoming harder and harder to find these days.
And here’s the real test…
My husband is… let’s just say… incredibly detail-oriented. 😂 He probably had 5,432,764 questions, requests, and little complaints during our stay, and somehow Shawnee handled every single one with patience, professionalism, and a smile. She made sure every concern was addressed without ever making us feel like we were asking too much. Honestly, if she can keep him smiling, she deserves an award!
She has one of those personalities you don’t forget. She’s funny, welcoming, genuine, and honestly seems like the type of person you’d want to grab dinner with on a Friday night because you just know you’d have a great time. People like Shawnee can’t be trained… they’re simply special.

Please recognize what an incredible employee you have. She represents your hotel better than any advertisement ever could. If I were running customer service training, I’d have Shawnee teaching the class. She is truly top-tier.
Now, about the hotel itself…
The rooms were clean, comfortable, and everything worked exactly as it should. The property felt safe, well-maintained, and definitely not one of those sketchy roadside motels. There are designated smoking areas, the staff was friendly, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming.
A quick tip for future guests…
If you’re deciding between room types, book the king room! The king bed was AMAZING. Plenty of room to stretch out, even for my little human tornado who somehow manages to sleep sideways every night. 😂
The double-bed room was nice too, but the beds felt a bit smaller than expected, closer to Twin XLs than full-size beds. If space matters to you, the king room is absolutely worth it.
The biggest compliment I can give this hotel is this…
After our third night, we tried to save a little money and booked two different hotels for the remaining nights. One felt uncomfortable the moment we pulled into the parking lot. The other hit us with so many unexpected fees that it became more frustrating than worthwhile.
So what did we do?
We canceled those plans and went right back to the SureStay.
Why?
Because it honestly felt like we were coming back home… and a huge part of that was Shawnee.
Thank you for making what could have been a stressful week feel comfortable, welcoming, and even fun.
We’ll absolutely be back.
