  I spend about a third of my year in a hotel somewhere around the world. This was my first stay in Oswego in a suite overlooking the river. Advertised as a smoke free facility - it is anything but that. When I checked into my fourth floor suite, the room reeked of Marijuana. In the bathroom, it smelt as though someone had smoked a pack of cigarettes. They changed my room from the fourth floor to the basement into a smaller room. When I went to use the iron, it died within five minutes of being used. In the bathroom when I was blow drying my hair, the GFI kept tripping. One of the outlets didn’t work in the bedroom area. In a smaller room when there were only a few exposed outlets, this was problematic so I had to charge my phone in the bathroom. It was Dirt week in Oswego therefore the room was priced significantly higher which I don’t mind paying but it was the worst value for a dollar that I have ever paid. When you laid out at night and put your head on your pillow, you don’t want it to feel like ashtray! I tried to use the AC in the room… I went to the front desk and mentioned a concern that it wasn’t working properly. She said some of the thermostats are off so you just have to set it lower than what you really want it so I said it for 60 so that I could get a 70 degree room. I wanted it a little cooler. On a positive note housecleaning did a beautiful job keeping the rooms clean with what they had to work with. The front desk was amazing. This is truly the only hotel that I have ever left a review for and the only reason I have done so that someone else to be caught unaware.

  The male employee with hat and silver chain around his neck is way too flirtatious near , breakfast area and out front management might want to speak with him

  Rug was pretty stained and there was a false eyelash on the bed cover. Nice night view.

  Tremendous hotel. Location was excellent, with waterfront view. Check in easy by a very friendly clerk who gave an excellent recommendation for dinner. Easy access with our luggage. Room was great, everything worked (A/C - very important), ice machine, good breakfast. By comparison, we had stayed several nights in an upscale, "historic" hotel in Montreal that was dark and dingy, no breakfast, no ice machine, no railings on steps for access. This is a great property and we recommend it highly.

  Extremely Disappointing — Not the Room We Booked This was, without question, one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we have had. We booked a riverfront room four months in advance and were looking forward to our stay. Instead, we were checked into a room with a view of the parking lot. When we brought this to the attention of both the staff and the manager, we were simply told that there was nothing they could do about it. No meaningful attempt was made to correct the situation or offer an alternative. The room itself was equally disappointing. There was mold in the shower, and the room clearly felt dated. We were initially told that we were in the newer section and that the only issue was that the building had “older elevators.” The walk to our room was almost a full city block. The manager also told us the room had been recently renovated—until we learned that the renovation was actually done in 2010, 16 years ago. That hardly qualifies as “recently renovated” by today's standards. There wasn't even a single USB outlet in the room to charge our phones or watches. We actually had to go out to the car to charge our devices. For a hotel presenting itself as a modern property, this was completely unacceptable. What was perhaps most frustrating was the complete lack of concern from management. All of our complaints were made directly in front of the hotel's prominently displayed “Our Service Promise” sign, which states: “If something is not meeting your expectation, please let us know. We want to make it right.” Unfortunately, those words felt more like a slogan than a genuine promise. We did let them know, and they did not make it right. We understand that not every stay will be perfect and that things can occasionally go wrong. What matters is how a hotel responds when a legitimate concern is brought to management's attention. In our case, there was no meaningful effort to resolve the situation. We booked a riverfront room four months in advance and received a parking lot view, a dated room with mold in the shower, and virtually no effort from management to address our concerns. That is simply not acceptable, and we would not stay here again.
