Was there a bit ago, and was woken up in the middle of the night because some guy set off the fire system by hanging clothes on a sprinkler 😑. Had to walk 31 flights of stairs, and tucked. Overall hotel was ok, but they engineered the room to have less privacy, making you buy more rooms for more people. An example is making bathroom doors that are smaller that the actual frame, overall jerk move. Tons of drug addicts outside, and kinda smelled like smoking drugs. Meh experience 😕

The staff were so very friendly and attentive. Our toilet wouldn’t stop running and the maintenance man dropped everything to address it. The housekeeping was also great - our room (though cramped true to NYC fashion) was very very clean! The location was very convenient as well - it felt safe and a very short walk to Times Square along with a 15-20 min walk to Rockefeller, Bryant Park, and other sites. The reason we are giving it a 3/5 is due to the complimentary breakfast, outdated rooms, and elevator situation. We felt this hotel was a great deal as Holiday Inn Expresses have a pretty good breakfast. We were very disappointed our first morning there - burnt/dry sausage, undercooked potatoes, and very bland egg whites. The breakfast area was also very cramped and overcrowded - and as a result, was pretty messy and hot. We ended up eating breakfast out for our whole stay, which was a bummer. Do not book this hotel thinking you’ll get a solid, holiday inn express breakfast. The hotel being cramped wasn’t a surprise - it is NYC after all. But it is extremely outdated. Walking by other hotels nearby, we noticed they were more updated and seemed nicer for a comparable price. This last point is not within the control of the staff - but good to know when looking for a hotel. The hotel has 30+ floors and only 2 elevators. Need an elevator in the morning around breakfast time? Forget about it. Need one in the afternoon around check out time? Forget about it. The only time we were able to secure a spot on an elevator was past 8pm and before 7am. The other times, we did have to take the stairs (which was a pain). Overall, this is not bad if you are looking for a budget friendly, very clean, and very convenient stay. We plan stay at other nearby hotels though.

I witnessed a deeply disturbing incident on this property’s grounds in which a group of young men reported to hotel security that they were being harassed by several individuals who were shouting homophobic slurs, making threats, and aggressively demanding that they leave the area. The threats and intimidating behavior occurred in full view of numerous bystanders, including the security guard. What was most alarming was not just the harassment itself, but the apparent lack of meaningful intervention. Despite witnessing the escalating situation, security failed to take appropriate action to de-escalate the confrontation, remove the threatening individuals, or ensure the safety of those being targeted. No guest should have to fear being verbally abused, threatened, or intimidated because of who they are. The message this experience sends is that hostile and potentially dangerous behavior is tolerated on the property while victims are left to fend for themselves. Based on what I witnessed, I would not consider this a safe environment for LGBTQ+ guests or anyone expecting basic standards of security and guest protection. Hotels have a responsibility to maintain a safe atmosphere and respond appropriately when harassment and threats occur. In this case, that responsibility appeared to be completely ignored.

The room itself was okay. The carpet in front of the mini fridge was soaking wet. Idk what there was in the fridge, but it seemed like it defrosted or something. I put the suitcase stand on top of it to make sure that I didn't step on it again. I checked out the safe because I had more cash on me than I wanted. I noticed that it didn't work and that's because the batteries were held in place with duct tape. If I had used it and then the batteries fell out I wouldn't be able to open the safe. The toilet was super low and water came out of the top after you flush it and it's filling back up. Fixed that myself by moving the refill tubing. A lot of loitering outside of the hotel by the "locals". It's nice that they tried to put benches out there for the guests, but the drunk and high ppl were mostly using it. They even had to have security out there the whole time. There was an issue with the company card I used to book the hotel. The front desk girl told me that she would need me to fill out some form and that she would email it to me. I never got one. I ended up having to use my personal credit card.
