A tourist trap. Imagine paying $2k a night for a hotel that: * Housekeeping doesn't pick up the phone after 10 rings. * Room service is wildly inconsistent. Omelettes that aren't edible. I've had better at 3 star hotels, seriously. My wife doesn't even eat a third of the things she orders, we now opt for outside delivery. * Rooms designed super bad. Random things sticking out to bang yourself on while also somehow wasting a ton of space. * "Dimmable" lights with two settings, super bright and off. * Steam room takes a 10 minutes to get going. * They don't fill the bath soap in the shower, you have to request for it to be filled. * The switch on bedside light randomly breaks, because why not. * "Ammenites" that are so bad you throw them straight into the trash. And so on. I will never stay at another Four Seasons after this.

We had an excellent stay. The room was wonderfully dark and quiet, and we got a great night’s sleep. The hotel is in a great location, and the staff were warm, friendly, and welcoming throughout. No complaints. We’d happily stay here again.

I stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown for just under 10 days and had an amazing experience overall. This is now easily my favorite hotel in Downtown Manhattan. The Tribeca location is extremely convenient, especially if you plan on going back and forth to Brooklyn or want easy access in and out of Manhattan. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the service throughout my stay was excellent. I booked a standard king room, but it was so generously sized that it almost felt like a suite. With taxes and fees, the rate was around $1,500 per night during my stay, so it certainly isn’t inexpensive, but that is also the level of hotel and service you’re paying for here. Housekeeping was consistently excellent, and everything throughout the stay was handled professionally. The Wolfgang Puck restaurant on the ground floor was another highlight. I ate there several times for both breakfast and steak dinners and really enjoyed it. I also spent some time at the spa on the third floor, which was very nice, and the hotel’s newly renovated gym deserves special mention. It has some of the best equipment I’ve seen in any hotel gym. My only real complaint is the nighttime entrance procedure. After a certain hour, the exterior doors are locked and guests have to use their room key to enter. The system is not intuitive, the scanner outside is very difficult to notice, and there are no obvious instructions explaining what to do. I was actually locked outside twice after coming back after midnight. Both times I had to knock and wait for security to eventually come to the door. On one occasion, I was told that you have to tap your room key on a small device outside and then essentially hurry to the door because you only have a few seconds before it locks again. For a hotel at this level, that system really needs to be improved. Better signage, a more visible card reader, and a longer entry window would solve most of the problem. That issue aside, my stay was excellent. Beautiful rooms, outstanding service, a great restaurant, excellent spa and fitness facilities, and one of the best luxury hotel experiences I’ve had in Downtown Manhattan. I would absolutely stay here again.

For a $4,000 two-night stay booked through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts, I expected luxury service. Instead, I spent hours fighting for benefits that were clearly included with the reservation. I booked this stay as a wedding gift for my nephew and his new bride. Before booking, I confirmed directly with American Express that all FHR benefits would apply as long as I personally checked them in. I informed the hotel in advance, but they repeatedly insisted that the benefits would not be honored unless I physically stayed in the room myself. After multiple calls and over two hours with American Express confirming the hotel's interpretation was wrong, the hotel still refused to budge. Strangely, when I arrived for check-in, they suddenly agreed to honor the benefits after all. Then came the breakfast issue. The couple spent about $80 one morning and $120 the next. Instead of showing any flexibility after all the confusion and despite the fact that the $100 property credit went completely unused, the hotel charged an extra $20 for breakfast. The amount is irrelevant. The issue is that this Four Seasons hotel appeared determined to minimize or avoid FHR benefits from the very beginning. For a luxury property charging $2,000 per night, the experience felt surprisingly petty, adversarial, and far below the service standards one would expect.
