Tiny rooms. Super tiny rooms. Rooms so small, you gotta exhale to get in. "This is an IHG property?", you'll grumble. "Why are there so many gnats flying around the bar area?", you might say as you sit waiting for a bartender, any bartender, to come out and sell you a beer. "Is there no bartender?" You look at your watch. Its 9pm on a Saturday. "Whats the point of having a hotel bar if it isnt staffed?", you wonder. "I cant stay in the room because its cartoonishly small, and I cant hang at the bar, because the bartender is washing towels downstairs....so why did I choose EvenHotel? No, really, why?"

People are sweet at helpful even when there is an obvious crowd around them with multiple demands being flung their way. Must be great management too as I dont usually see this behavior unless the people care and people do not care unless they are cared for and cared about. The hotel seems very clean and well appointed. I was intrigued by this atrium I could see from my room and wondered why I saw nobody using it the day I came in and that night. So, I decided to sit and have my coffee in it after my workout in the hotel gym. The gym was also great. Choices of high end bikes all with working monitors and updated software. Free weights (no bar, but that's ok) and high end running and elliptical machines. Many of each kind and type. Only 2 people in the gym from my time there at about 6:45 to 7:15 and only at the end period. So I had the place completely to my self letting me listen to my music and videos without headsets, a true joy for me. The bathrooms and bedrooms are equally well apointed. Not super large but also not anything I would call a micro room either. Our room had two beds and our family member had a full king in their room. I would recommend this to anyone I know. Without reserve or comment and solid choice if you are in Brooklyn.

So this is definitely *not* a 4 star hotel as advertised. It's really a 3 star. Mostly self service. No porters etc. For whatever reason they never added my partner to the reservation even though I gave her name when I reserved the room then *again* at check in because she was coming in on a red-eye and I didn't want to be woken up. They called anyways when she got there before they would let her up. So they woke me up right after I got to sleep from a delayed flight and held her hostage at the front desk until I answered. Then they did fire alarm testing in which they came over the intercom multiple times while we were trying to sleep. Like, right when we'd fall back asleep, here comes the intercom again. It was impossible to get any rest. Not to mention the AC that kept turning off. More on that later. The room smelled weird. Like a weird rubber smell. There was barely any room to move in the "suite". To get into one side of the bed you literally were pressed up against the wall trying to navigate to the head of the bed. They actually charged us to hold our bags after check out before our flight. Like...what? 😂 The kicker and biggest reason for the poor rating, was that the AC stopped working every morning after about 6 or 7 am. We would wake up sweating. When we asked the desk about this they acted like they couldn't understand what might be wrong until I asked *them* if they had some weird energy saving thing going on. Turns out the AC doesn't run if whatever detection they have doesn't sense anyone in the room. So while we were sleeping after tumultuous travel days of trying to enjoy our time in the city, it just cut off. We had to get up to turn it off then back on every hour or so to keep the room cool enough to sleep in since this was all during a heat wave in which the city was 90°F+ almost every day. Just not a good experience. They had a yoga mat in the room which was nice, but I'm not sure where you were supposed to put it as the room was nearly unnavigable.

My girlfriend and I had taken a trip and stayed here to celebrate her graduating law school and while we had a great time and did enjoy the hotel at first, unfortunately, it had taken a twist from us being bitten by bedbugs. We had reached out to their staff to try to make them aware of the issue so that no one else had to be exposed to this inconvenience and no one has gotten back to us in the last month despite us trying to let them know multiple times. The location was good and it was located nearby the subway stations and the breakfast was delicious but please be warned that staying here will open you up to risk in having to deal with bed bugs and the time consuming nature of trying to protect your home and items brought with you.

Had a single night stay here recently, and things were going just fine until we left for a night out around 11pm and came back around 3am only to realize that at some point between then our key cards had been disabled and we were locked out of the room. When we talked to the desk staff about this, they were not able to provide an explanation of why this happened but offered us a new room in its place, however they told us that we would not be able to get back into our original room until around 7am when they could have someone come to fix the door locks. This meant we had to sleep in an entirely new room without any of our things from 3:30 to 7am, wake up at 7 for the door to be fixed (this took about 30 minutes) and then try and go back to sleep in the original room until about 10 to ensure we were out by checkout at 11. It completely disrupted our stay, which was disappointing because we were only at the hotel for a single night. I understand that this was not the fault of the hotel staff, however the worst part was that nothing was done to amend this after the fact - no discount on our bill, no voucher for a future stay, not even a free breakfast for the trouble. Because hotel service is all about hospitality, I really don't think customers should even have to ask for something like this when we stay for a single night and the staff is already aware we are having a poor experience. It's just disappointing to know that management at EVEN does not care enough to try and retain paying customers as they are aware the hotel is in a high-traffic area and likely does not have any trouble acquiring new ones. Therefore, we left a little disgruntled about paying full price for such a mediocre experience. While I'm sure it could have been worse, I likely will not be staying here again.
