Pretty decent hotel, nice location with a lot to do around it. Water pressure in my room was all over the place, and the AC / Thermostat was really frustrating to use.

I had a very disappointing experience at Holiday Inn & Suites Parsippany Fairfield and felt compelled to share it. During my stay, housekeeping left my room door propped open after servicing the room. I left the hotel around 9:00 AM and did not return until approximately 8:30 PM. When I returned, I discovered that my room had been left unsecured and accessible for most of the day. Finding my room open was extremely upsetting. My personal belongings, luggage, and sensitive documents were left exposed for hours. While nothing appeared to be missing, there is no way for me to know whether someone entered the room, handled my belongings, viewed personal information, or otherwise compromised my privacy. A hotel room is supposed to be a secure place, and that basic expectation was not met. What made the situation worse was the response afterward. When I reported the issue, I repeatedly asked to speak with someone who could explain what happened and address my concerns. No one was made available. I later called and requested a callback, but no one returned my call. I also contacted corporate and never received the response I was expecting. Instead, I received a call from a property representative ( Collin) who seemed more interested in debating the wording I used to describe the incident than addressing the fact that my room had been left unsecured for hours. Whether a room door is described as "wide open" or "propped open," the result is the same: the room was accessible to anyone who walked by. Because of this incident, we no longer felt comfortable allowing housekeeping into our room for the remainder of our stay. We lost confidence that our room would be properly secured after staff entered it. Mistakes can happen, but how a hotel responds to those mistakes matters. Unfortunately, I found the communication, follow-up, and accountability to be lacking. Guest safety, privacy, and security should be taken seriously, and based on my experience, I did not feel that they were. I hope management takes steps to improve training and procedures so that future guests do not experience the same situation.

This hotel feels safe; it offers a free breakfast, and the rooms are clean. The pool is lovely. The later checkout and the later breakfast were nice. We slept comfortably enough. I did deduct a star: the water pressure is lacking, and the hot water does not really get hot. Breakfast was also not that great.

I called this hotel today because I am planning to travel to the area with my service dog — not an emotional support animal. I was shocked to see on their website that they explicitly state service dogs are not allowed and that only guide dogs with documentation are permitted. This is not only incorrect, but it also appears to conflict with both IHG’s own service animal policy and federal ADA requirements. IHG properties state that service animals accompanying individuals with disabilities are exempt from pet fees, and some IHG property pages specifically state “No pet fee for service animals.” Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, hotels are places of public accommodation and must allow service animals to accompany guests in areas where guests are normally permitted. A service animal is not a pet, and a hotel may not apply a “no pets” policy, pet restriction, pet deposit, or pet fee to a legitimate service animal. The ADA also makes clear that businesses may not require documentation, certification, registration, or proof that a service dog has been trained. The only permitted questions are generally whether the dog is required because of a disability and what work or task the dog has been trained to perform. Because I could not believe the website policy was accurate, I called the property at approximately 8:04 PM and spoke with Veronica. I was ready to book a room, but I first asked for clarification regarding the service animal policy listed on the website. I was initially told the policy was wrong and that I would not have an issue. However, the conversation quickly turned into the same outdated and incorrect statement that “documentation” is required for a service animal. I explained that emotional support animals are not the same as service animals, and I agreed that ESAs are not covered in the same way. However, I also explained that under the ADA, there is no required certification, registration, or documentation for a legitimate service animal. I further explained that anyone can go online and purchase a certificate or vest, but that does not make the animal a service animal. As someone who provides corporate ADA training on this exact issue, I was trying to clarify the policy and requested the manager’s name. Instead of assisting me, Veronica stated she did not have time and hung up. I then called IHG customer service, but unfortunately, they were no help and did not appear to understand or address the seriousness of the issue. Based on this experience and prior negative IHG experiences involving my service dog, I would strongly caution fellow service members, disabled guests, and handlers with legitimate service animals to avoid this location and reconsider IHG properties in general. Hotels do not get to rewrite federal law, require fake online paperwork, or deny access because staff are not properly trained. This type of treatment is unacceptable, and service animal handlers should not have to fight for basic access, dignity, and respect.
