Discover Lumina on Wrightsville Beach, a reimagined resort that draws on the storied history of a beloved beach pavilion. Designed in a bygone era to showcase the marvel of electricity, the original Lumina shone so brightly that sailors navigated their ships by it – and generations of beach-lovers navigated their social lives around it.
We recapture that spirit today in a resort space lit with camaraderie, beckoning visitors and locals alike with dazzling hospitality. Certain guest room here enjoys an ocean view; most have balconies and some have bunk beds to better accommodate families. Recreation opportunities abound, with three pools and direct beach access, a hammock garden, even a beachfront fitness center, plus a full slate of onsite activities and entertainment. The best food on the beach is right here, too, from fine cocktails and cuisine to bar bites and local brews.

***Families be aware - indoor pool closes when the outdoor one closes due to weather!***
We stayed here for our family beach vacation in July 2026. We had a good sized room and overall it was a good stay. However there were some challenges that out a dampener on our trip:
First - I wish I knew that if the outdoor pool closes due to bad weather, so does the indoor pool! We usually do airbnbs in Wrightsville, and the reason we stayed at the Lumina instead this time was because of the indoor pool option, as we expected some bad weather (July at the beach!). This was super disappointing - and that disappointment was shared by a lot of other families when we all discovered this fact the hard way
One of the elevators was broken for the entire 5 days of our stay. We regularly waited 10 minutes for an elevator - again, a frustration shared by a lot of folks as it became a running joke whenever folks were finally able to get in. Someone commented it had been broken for a few days before we arrived - no idea how long it has truly been out.
I paid for an ocean view room, and technically it was. However, our room was on the roofline for the entrance below, meaning the view was only there when standing up on the balcony. It was obstructed when sitting down out there, which was what we were planning on.
On the positive side, the restaurant was decent and the “kids eat free” was a nice touch. Our first impression when arriving was fantastic - the lady who greeted us was very welcoming, I didn’t catch her name unfortunately. Service throughout (poolside, restaurant, etc) was great. Location is also great, and there’s a shuttle to take you to restaurants if you don’t want to drive - just be aware that there isn’t much in easy (if you have young kids) walking distance from the hotel.

Honestly can’t recommend enough if you’re looking for a place to stay right on the beach. The girl that checked us in (so sorry I can’t remember her name) was so sweet, and gave great recommendations since this was our first time in Wrightsville/ Wilmington. All the staff were very kind.
The pool/ beach combination was great, especially since it was so hot. It was so nice to walk down and have both options. Definitely be sure to get down early if you want chairs and an umbrella at the beach. There was also a server walking around the pool for food and drinks, which was wonderful too. And she was so nice.
We had both breakfast and dinner at Solstice on the days we were too tired from the sun to go out. And both were great.
The rooms were clean and spacious.
I also appreciated since it was so hot that there was covered parking garages for my car.
The location overall was great. And not too far from Wilmington either.
Can’t wait to come back for another beach stay!

This is a nice hotel and it is more upgraded and newer than others on the island. We thought the beds were comfortable. The two pools are great, one indoor, one outdoor, though word to the wise, if theres lightning within 5 miles they close both pools. We are a swim team family, gotta say I don’t understand this rule, its overly conservative in our opinion. There is also a toddler pool and a hot tub, along with nice boardwalks, sun deck with lounge chairs, and plenty of showers/spray faucets for when you come back from the beach. Its nice to have the surfside bar and grill by the pool, but wow the drink prices are outrageous. $13 for a high noon? Come on now, thats highway robbery. I can buy a whole pack at ABC for that price. We do like that it was on the quieter end of the island and love the free shuttle. Thats an amazing amenity. Biggest drawback was the elevator service, only one has been working literally all week. It caused a LOT of issues with guests. People pushing both the up and down arrow on every floor, just trying to catch it. Pretty frustrating to be on the top floor and the elevator door opens and its totally full, with no one getting off. Same with come in from the beach on the bottom floor - people riding down just to make sure they get to go up, so you have to wait for it a 2nd or even 3rd time. Cant access the stairs from the parking deck, so its a convoluted path to get back up without the elevator. I will say all the employees and service folks were great.

My first year in NC in 2021 i went to a hotel property on Wrightsville beach and swore the area off. The hotels were expensive and terribly maintained with hit or miss service. We didn't return until a family friend told me about Lumina in 2023. I was hesitant but I trusted my friend and glad I did. Lumina had just opened the summer prior as an IHG property and was in pristine condition. They had completely renovated the place and we have been taking long weekend summer trips from the city since 2023. It's pricier than other options in the area but the service, amenities, cleanliness, proximity to the ocean, indoor and outdoor pool make it worth it for me personally. I've always been impressed with how well the place is run. The staff knows what they are doing, and the quality of the food on-site is very good. When there are hiccups, and every place will have them, they’ve taken care of things promptly. I have a kid under 10 and the property is so easy to navigate with and plenty of things to keep him busy. Rooms are clean, spacious enough for what we need, and are equipped with a microwave and a mini fridge. I dont need a gigantic room since I'm spending most of my time at the beach anyway. If i need to chill in the evening there is plenty of space to relax and read or play games in other spaces throughout the hotel inside or outside. I hope they keep up the standard they have set cause I have no problem paying the premium price to get out of Raleigh a few times during the summer for beach getaways with the fam.
