We had such a wonderful experience at the Holiday Inn Express Nags Head Oceanfront! I recently stayed here while helping coordinate a trip for a group of residents from the senior living community where I work, and Kristina and her team were amazing. Kristina was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process and made everything feel easy. She even had gift bags waiting in each room when we arrived, which was such a thoughtful surprise and really made our residents feel welcomed. The service throughout our stay was excellent, everything went smoothly, and our residents truly enjoyed their time in Nags Head. I really appreciated how attentive, accommodating, and kind the entire team was to our group. A huge thank you to Kristina and the staff for helping make the trip such a positive experience. I would absolutely recommend this hotel!

The location and rooms are great. A touch outdated for a holiday inn express but definitely didn't mind since the location made up for it! The service was an issue. Front desk staff were nice. The lady at breakfast was extremely rude, saw her mouth back to many customers and glarred at me when I took 4 muffins (one for each family member back to room). She told someone else that breakfast was 'NOT TO GO'. I laughed it off but others were not taking it as nice. The biggest issue was there weren't enough clean towels. The pool had none several times and when we arrived in our room there were only 2 large towels (yet the room reservation was for 4 people). I asked several times the first 3 days and there were none available. If I was lucky I got 1 or 2 but that was at night. It was VERY frustrating.

The rooms are fine. The breakfast area is sized for a facility with approximately 10 rooms. I believe this hotel has greater than ten rooms because it is always slammed jammed and rammed full of people. Rooms are only $325 though so am undersized breakfast area seems appropriate. Our room of four was allocated two towels. When I inquired about more I was told the hotel was out. Rooms are only $325 a night though so I think it's reasonable two people share a bath towel. Also, the laundry facility consists of a single residential washer with a broken agitator and a single residential dryer with the lint screen rusted out. You may wonder how I know about the washer. Well, you see, after a long exhausting day of a long exhausting trip I wanted to do a quick load of laundry one evening. Imagine my surprise when I go to transfer my clothes to the dryer and find them wet and soapy. Drain and spin cycle to the rescue, I thought. Turns out that cycle dumps a little more water on top of your clothes just to mock you, then proceeds to clank and click, presumably to lock the lid, failing, and leaving you're clothes even more wet than before. There is a very sketchy laundromat about ten minutes away. They have these things called "commercial washers" that look like they're from the '70s and haven't been cared for since the '71s and they work perfectly. The $325 a night Holiday Inn Express must not have one of these in the budget. Anyway, the hotel has beach access, which is nice and there seems to be enough parking spaces. I have created a project plan for the IHG higher-ups to implement to remedy short-comings. 1) Buy/procure more towels. Do this with the mindset that people in hotels use lots of towels. Also consider that towels are a necessity for hotels. Get 17x more than you need. Warehouse them around the property. Store caches of them at surrounding locations just in case. Enter into emergency sharing agreements with neighboring hotels in the of chance the caches run dry. Make it your motto, "no matter how much other things may suck, we have towels!" 2) Make the freaking breakfast area bigger! Get an architect to design a new plan. Once that plan is back, tell them to quadruple the size. Add a new 6th floor if needed. Make it your motto, "no matter how much other things may suck, we have a breakfast area that can hold more than three people at any given time." 3) Buy a couple of Speed Queens. Buy them off of eBay if you're short on money. Have them serviced every ten years or so. Repair the current household machines so they can wash and dry towels if needed.

We love the Hotel location. It was nice stay at the hotel. The reason I gave 3 stars is the staff from hotel morning breakfast were rude and grumpy. They just wanted to kick out the people from the dining area. No smile on their faces and they were working like someone pushed them to do the job against their will 😒. Please make them happy or train them to at least smile. We don’t want to see such a grumpy and rude behavior in the early morning 🙏🏻

We recently stayed here over the Fourth of July weekend and overall had a good experience. The biggest strengths of this hotel are definitely the staff and the location. Every employee we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. Customer service here was excellent and made us feel appreciated throughout our stay. The oceanfront rooms offer beautiful views, and the direct beach access is hard to beat. One feature we especially appreciated was the outdoor rinsing station when returning from the beach—it made it much easier to wash off sand before heading back inside. Parking was also plentiful and convenient, even during a busy holiday weekend. The heated pool was a pleasant surprise and was very clean, making it enjoyable for both adults and kids. The fitness center was also well maintained and clean for anyone wanting to get a workout in while away from home. The complimentary breakfast was another nice perk that helped us get an early start before spending the day on the beach. The air conditioning in our room worked exceptionally well, which was a huge plus considering how hot and humid the Fourth of July weekend was. That said, the property is beginning to show its age. Our room could have used a more thorough cleaning, as we found dead bugs along the inside balcony windowsill and crumbs and debris underneath the chair cushions. Nothing major, but enough to notice. The bathroom could also use an upgrade. At a beachfront hotel, a handheld shower head would make rinsing off sand much easier than the fixed shower head that's currently installed. During our stay, the building fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, requiring the entire hotel to evacuate while the fire department checked everything out. Thankfully, it turned out to be a false alarm. While that certainly wasn't ideal—especially with small children—I don't hold it against the hotel since guest safety has to come first and these situations can happen anywhere. Overall, this is a solid place to stay if you're looking for an oceanfront hotel with excellent beach access, good amenities, and a staff that truly cares about its guests. With a little more attention to room cleanliness and some updates to the aging rooms, this would easily be a five-star stay. We would certainly consider staying here again.
