  My husband and I are staying at the Avon Pier & RV Resort. We were originally booked for a 4-night stay, but will be staying at least 9 nights due to the storm that washed out the only road leaving Hatteras Island. If I had to choose a place to have an enforced extended vacation, this would be it! The RV park itself is well maintained and ideally located (other than the whole “only one road leaving the island” issue). There is a large sand dune protecting the grounds from the ocean (much appreciated), with easy access to the beach next to the pier entrance. There is a large, open grassy area, a nice children’s playground, a restaurant (Pangea), and a food truck (open for breakfast and lunch). The RV sites are graveled, relatively level (we had to use a couple of leveling blocks to raise one side of our 5th wheel), with grassy areas for the picnic tables. Being oceanfront on a barrier island means that there are not many trees or much shade, but there are some bushes and plantings that may provide more shade in the future. The hookups are in good condition and water pressure is adequate. The sites are a bit close together, but there weren’t many campers this week, so we had plenty of room and privacy. Our 35’ 5th wheel fit easily into site 25, although we couldn’t push too far back because the hookups (including the electric box) were towards the front of the site. Consider bringing an extension cord if your rig’s outlet is on the rear and you are longer than 35’. The Beach Club is available to campground guests and has a lovely pool, pool deck with plenty of chaise lounges and some tables and chairs, a snack bar (not open off-season), an elevated deck overlooking the pool on one side and the beach on the other, and a private walkway over the dune to a deck with benches and a stairway down to the beach. The campground bath house is immaculately clean, with modern facilities, and spacious showers with private dressing areas. Although the campground manager, Sherry, is not physically on-site, she responds promptly to texts or emails and answers her cell phone if you call. She reached out to me on several occasions to make sure we were doing ok in the storm and to assure us we could stay as long as we needed to (at no additional cost to us, I might add, although your mileage may vary). We would not hesitate in the least to stay here again if our travels bring us back to the Outer Banks.

  There were 4 RV’s, 8 people and 7 dogs in our RV caravan. We were comfortably accommodated. The pier was right there and the beach was easily accessible. A very nice facility. I would like to have seen the dog park area fenced in, though.

  Amazing RV spot, clean, well kept with full hookups. Great both central to stores and restaurants but also very private next to Avon Pier. Dog and pet friendly with plenty of areas to walk. Sherry the online manager is so nice and quick to answer and respond to calls, thanks so much Sherry! Sherry needs a raise! I wondered what the team was that kept the bathrooms so clean and neat, and this morning I met Raymond, he used to work at the pier but now he does also restrooms, and he does an amazing job. Thanks Raymond Management you should give you Raymond a raise, thanks for hiring good people like him and all staff we’ve had the pleasure to meet. The park is also pet friendly and the community we met staying there are very friendly and nice people. So glad we picked this place as our first new RV park, so glad we came here.
