Sometimes the best cure for a long work week is a change in altitude — and a hotel room cheap enough to still afford steak. 😄⛰️
hello, Asheville!
After a little recon work, we landed at the Holiday Inn with a king-size room for $116 total. That was comfortably in my range and, more importantly, left enough room in the budget to have Outback delivered. Priorities, people. 😂🥩 And if you haven’t noticed lately, the kids’ steak meals are only about $12. Southern wisdom says if the steak is good and the price is right, nobody needs to see your birth certificate.
We ended up on the second floor, which is just about perfect for us. You avoid the constant traffic of the first floor without getting high enough that every trip downstairs turns into a waiting relationship with the elevator.
The room made a great first impression. The bed looked like it was saying, “You’ve worked enough. Come on over here.” Even better, the room actually smelled clean when we walked in — and that will earn points with me every single time.
Now, about that toilet paper. 😂 Whoever folded it apparently woke up feeling artistic. It was so decorated that I was almost afraid to disturb it. Good thing we travel with baby wipes anyway, because you just know that roll was super fresh after all that handling. Bless their heart and their commitment to presentation.
The hotel itself is comfortable and inviting, the lobby has plenty of seating, and the front desk welcome matched the room. I did notice two little things: the window could use a bit of cleaning, and the map displayed in the lobby isn’t completely accurate. But honestly, most guests probably wouldn’t even notice either one.
For $116 total, a clean king room, a comfortable bed, a good location, and enough money left over for steak delivered to the door? I’m calling that a pretty good Asheville landing.
Because sometimes you don’t need a five-star resort.
You just need a clean room, a comfortable bed, a little mountain air, and enough left in the budget for dinner. 😋⛰️

July 2026, I stayed at an Intercontinental Hotel adjacent to the Cleveland Clinic. The ADA mobility room had a high bed that I couldn’t access from my wheelchair. The staff promptly accommodated my disability by removing the frame to lower the bed! Please consider this experience with this one: I reserved a mobility ADA room for three nights. The room had inaccessible high beds! We were informed by the clerk “all the rooms have the same beds.” We inquired about a cot or rollaway bed and was informed they had gotten “rid of all of those.” The clerk suggested “folding two blankets to sleep on the floor like some parents do with their children.” During the stay, communication & customer service did not get any better. Information provided by staff was inadequate and staff did not contact us to clarify. The hotel demonstrated a total disregard of accommodations for people with disabilities. I ask that you think twice before doing business here.

This is a newer hotel and all the rooms are up to date. It was a nice, quiet stay. I was surprised to see that they have a smaller indoor pool. All the staff was lovely.

Two year old hotel in Asheville. Everything sparkled. Carpet smelled new. Beds were very comfortable. Good pressure on shower. Morning buffet was very good. Good eggs and potatoes and sausage. Biscuits and gravy weren't great. Biscuits were hard both mornings. Everything else was great.
