Horrible Experience. I’ll start by saying I went to Big Cedar on a golf trip. The courses were cool, but the courses are a minimum of 20 minutes from the “hotel”. The pictures are of a room at Valley View Lodge, a 2 bedroom. Valley View lodge is reminiscent to me of Motel 6. They are dressed up a bit on the outside, but dated in every way possible inside. You’ll see one picture of the bathroom, with a window to the bedroom? Made no sense. This room cost close to $500 a night, and they charged me $100 to make adjustments to the dates, due to tee times. The customer service via a phone call is horrific. I had to call at least 3 times to make reservations, adjustments, etc… I spoke to one polite/professional lady on my last adjustment. I visited a couple of the restaurants, and all they are is overpriced Applebee’s food except for Osage. Big Cedar is spread out all over Branson. The place is spread out everywhere, almost nothing is within walking distance. They want you take a shuttle bus everywhere. So imagine lugging your kids, golf clubs, cooler, or anything else around on a bus. Top of the Rock golf course was amazing in almost everyway. The whole staff was on point, and very welcoming. The views were stunning, and the course was creative. Later that day we played Cliffhangers. This is a par 3 course over looking Payne’s Valley. It was cool, but felt like putt putt with wedges. At $250 for an 18 hole round, it was hard to justify. Apparently a couple of the courses, share a clubhouse/restaurant, and a few large tents that hold their golf carts. Another incredibly confusing experience. It’s almost like no one that works at these properties except for Top of the Rock golf course know what they’re doing, or have any direction. It was a horrible experience overall. Top of the Rock was almost perfect in every sense. Preston & John that work there are customer service superstars. Last but not least, once I saw this room at Big Cedar, I left, and went and got another room off the property. Unfortunately, I had a Lakeside Cabin for the next day, they refused to let me cancel. So I’m about roughly $1,200 just in rooms. $1,200 in rooms that I didn’t stay in.
Big Cedar puts on a big show online, but really it’s just a cluster of spread out properties, with garbage customer service, and horribly overpriced Food, and accommodations. The front desk when in person at Big Cedar were nice, and professional, the Top of the Rock staff was amazing, the girls at the “Special Clubhouse” at Cliffhangers, and the hosts at the Devil’s Restaurant were great. Everyone else acted like they were on vacation, and they were paying me. Horrible experience overall. So bad I just picked up left, and got another room down the street. If you’re not golfing, or boating I don’t see the point. Sorry for the long review, but I think people should know that this place is all spread out, and confusing with an unhelpful staff. Keep the $1,200 for the rooms I didn’t stay in, you can have it.
Add-on: The staff reached out in regards to this review. They asked me to send them my contact info. Of course I emailed them all my trip information. Not one single email, or return call. In my opinion Big Cedar Lodge has the same customer service skills you’d find at a crappy drive thru restaurant. They handle things like a White Castle, or some underwhelming, disrespectful burger chain. Your customer service is pitiful!
8/3/26 - Last night Anne Thompson called and smoothed some things over. Anne was amazing, helpful, and considerate. She was a pleasant, professional that knows how to treat people. I have half a mind to change this review, because of Anne. If I was at the top of the chain at Big Cedar, I’d make sure Anne is heading up how to handle customers from now on. Anne exemplifies the kind of customer service a resort is supposed to portray. Thank you Anne, you’ve given me a lot to think about over the next day or two.
